Township High School District 211 Summer School 2020 Mission Statement “Township High School District 211 serves the educational needs of the community inspiring all students to successfully contribute to the world.” – adopted by the Board of Education August, 2016 Welcome Welcome to Summer School! • In District 211, we are proud to boast quality programs, exceptional staff, and enriching opportunities for students. • All students residing in High School District 211 may enroll in our tuition Summer School program. • As you may know, we have a four-day week Summer School session, with a total of 26 days, 13 days each semester. • Summer School provides opportunities for students to improve academic skills and to explore new interests. It also enables incoming freshmen to become familiar with the high school routine. • Online registration begins on April 6 at 7:00 a.m. for Conant, Hoffman Estates, and Schaumburg High Schools, and on April 8 at 7:00 a.m. for Palatine and Fremd High Schools. Please register early. Walk-in registration also is available. • For your information, decisions to run most classes will be made by May 29. Class sizes must be limited, and classes will close when the limit is reached. Parents desiring to complete registration online may do so by using the same username and password that has been previously provided. Walk-in and online registrations must adhere to deadlines as stated. Payment for walk-in registrations may be done by cash, check, or credit card. Transportation: Students who pay in person for transportation will receive a temporary bus pass upon payment at the school where they register. If payment for transportation is made online, parents will be notified via email when a bus route has been assigned. The student then needs to see their counselor to get a temporary bus pass. 4 2020 Summer School Catalog General Information Academic Refund Policy Students may receive a 100% refund if they withdraw from a full-tuition academic course before the first class meeting. • Students enrolled in Summer School may receive a partial refund for only the following reasons: • any long-term illness or injury causing withdrawal from Summer School. The refund request must be accompanied by a doctor’s verification of the medical condition causing withdrawal. • a death in the immediate family. Township High School District 211 5 Food Service Options Breakfast, lunch, and à la carte options are available to all students attending Summer School. A complimentary breakfast will be available to all students before the start of school each morning. Additionally, Hoffman Estates and Palatine High Schools qualify for the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program that allows these schools to offer a free lunch to all students attending these high schools’ Summer School programs, as well as any child under the age of 18 in the community. More information on these programs can be found on the district’s webpage at: https://adc.d211.org/Page/7125. Conant and Fremd High Schools will offer a complete lunch daily for $3.00. All lunch meals include an entrée, servings of fruits and vegetables, and milk. A la carte offerings in the cafeteria and vending machines also will be available. If your child is new to District 211 this summer, an application for the free and reduced meal program for school year 2019-2020 is accessible online at http://adc. d211.org/page/6669 or a hardcopy is available at each school. Please remember that a new application will need to be completed prior to the 2020-2021 school year. This new application will be available in mid-July. District 211 students attending Summer School will have access to their food service prepayment account. District 211 cafeterias allow parents to prepay for school food services. Students must use their ID card to access their prepaid meal account in the cafeteria. Students may make a deposit in the cafeteria using cash or check. Prepayment funds also may be added with credit card by visiting https://MySchoolBucks. com. If you do not have an account, you can create a new one by following the steps at MySchoolBucks.com. More information on food service accounts can be found at: https://adc.d211.org/Page/6670. Transportation District 211 school buses will run for morning credit classes only. District transportation is not provided for afternoon classes. The fee is $35 for one semester, $70 for both semesters. Because of irregular schedules, students in driver education classes may not be able to benefit from bus service. Transportation is not available for camps. Palatine High School – 1st semester Art A153 Art Level: All 1/2 unit of credit This course is the equivalent to the first semester of Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking 1 offered during the regular school year. Students will learn the basics of drawing, color, and design through a variety of projects and materials. Fremd High School –– 2nd Semester Conant High School –– 2nd Semester A195 Digital Media Arts 1 Level: All 1/2 unit of credit Digital Media Arts 1 is the beginning level course and introduction to digital arts and imaging. Students will begin to learn key concepts and basic skills involving digital photography and imaging, digital illustration/vector, graphic design, raster/bitmap imagery, virtual worlds, motion graphics, and game design. Lessons will be geared towards learning tool and technique basics using industry standard software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, and Unity as students investigate the essentials of interactive media. This portfolio can be used for college and scholarship application as well as submission to the College Board
