NFL KICKS OFF WITH NATIONAL TV THURSDAY NIGHT GAME; NFL TV 2004 THE NFL is the only sports league that televises all regular-season and postseason games on free, over-the-air network television. This year, the league will kick off its 85th season with a national television Thursday night game in a rematch of the 2003 AFC Championship Game when the Indianapolis Colts visit the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on September 9 (ABC, 9:00 PM ET). Following is a guide to the “new look” for the NFL on television in 2004: • GREG GUMBEL will host CBS’ The NFL Today. Also joining the CBS pregame show are former NFL tight end SHANNON SHARPE and reporter BONNIE BERNSTEIN. • JIM NANTZ teams with analyst PHIL SIMMS as CBS’ No. 1 announce team. LESLEY VISSER joins the duo as the lead sideline reporter. • Sideline reporter MICHELE TAFOYA joins game analyst JOHN MADDEN and play-by-play announcer AL MICHAELS on ABC’s NFL Monday Night Football. • FOX’s pregame show, FOX NFL Sunday, will hit the road for up to seven special broadcasts from the sites of some of the biggest games of the season. • JAY GLAZER joins FOX NFL Sunday as the show’s NFL insider. • Joining ESPN is Pro Football Hall of Fame member MIKE DITKA. Ditka will serve as an analyst on a variety of shows, including Monday Night Countdown, NFL Live, SportsCenter and Monday Quarterback. • SAL PAOLANTONIO will host ESPN’s EA Sports NFL Match-Up (formerly Edge NFL Match-Up). • Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports Can Play in ESPN's Arena
Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports can play in ESPN’s Arena Kristopher M. Gundersen May 1, 2014 Professor Richard Linowes – Kogod School of Business University Honors Spring 2014 Gundersen 1 Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship ESPN has with the sports broadcasting industry. The study focuses on future prospects for the industry in relation to ESPN and its most prominent rival Fox Sports. It introduces significant players in the market aside from ESPN and Fox Sports and goes on to analyze the current industry conditions in the United States and abroad. To explore the future conditions for the market, the main method used was a SWOT analysis juxtaposing ESPN and Fox Sports. Ultimately, the study found that ESPN is primed to maintain its monopoly on the market for many years to come but Fox Sports is positioned well to compete with the industry behemoth down the road. In order to position itself alongside ESPN as a sports broadcasting power, Fox Sports needs to adjust its time horizon, improve its bids for broadcast rights, focus on the personalities of its shows, and partner with current popular athletes. Additionally, because Fox Sports has such a strong regional persona and presence outside of sports, it should leverage the relationship it has with those viewers to power its national network. Gundersen 2 Introduction The world of sports is a fast-paced and exciting one that attracts fanatics from all over. They are attracted to specific sports as a whole, teams within a sport, and traditions that go along with each sport.

WORLDWIDE SPEAKERS GROUP LLC YOUR GLOBAL PARTNER IN THOUGHT LEADERSHIP RON JAWORSKI After a 17-year distinguished career as an NFL quarterback, today Jaworski is coaching football fans on TV with a multiplatform NFL analyst role that includes appearances on Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown, NFL Matchup, NFL-branded specials, Mike & Mike in the Morning, Pardon the Interruption, and other platforms and shows throughout the year. ESPN’S Mike Tirico said, “If you made a list of 10 guys on TV in any sport as an analyst who you'd want to have a beverage with and watch a game, he’s [Ron Jaworski] high on that list.” Before switching to his current multiplatform analyst role with ESPN, Ron spent five seasons in the booth with Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden as the color commentator for Monday Night Football. Jaworski’s passion for football can be traced back to his days as a kid growing up in the gritty steel town of Lackawanna, NY. A three-sport stand out in high school (football, basketball and baseball), Jaworski was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals out of high school. He wanted to go play baseball immediately, but his father pushed for college first, and Jaworski’s football talents brought him to Youngstown State where he excelled as the quarterback for the Penguins. The Los Angeles Rams drafted Jaworski in the second round of the 1973 NFL Draft. After four years with the Rams, Jaworski joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 1977. Under head coach Dick Vermeil and behind Jaworski’s ability and field leadership, the Eagles advanced to their first-ever berth in a Super Bowl vs.
