City Light's Environment, Land and Licensing Business Unit (ELLBU) is responsible for overseeing environmental programs and services relating to hazardous materials, greenhouse gas reduction, environmental permitting, and the protection of aquatic ecosystems and fish and wildlife habitat. ELLBU supports City Light's operations throughout the service area and at its hydroelectric generating, transmission and distribution facilities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The intern will be responsible for assisting a team of wildlife biologists, ecologists, and permitting coordinators with mapping and collection of habitat data; analyzing data; researching baseline conditions of project sites; report and permit application writing; working with community-based stewardship groups; designing and implementing restoration projects; and assisting with environmental compliance or stewardship projects.

During this internship, the intern will be specifically responsible for:

Assist with management of GIS and tabular databases of aquatic and terrestrial habitat conditions, management activities, and wildlife use of project lands. Assist with development of habitat restoration measures on transmission rights-of-way, riparian areas, and habitat lands, which could involve mapping vegetation, developing targets, monitoring restoration projects, and collecting habitat data Assist with salmon spawning surveys. Assist with native and invasive/weed plant, wetlands and stream surveys. Field data collection including filling out data forms and use of GPS equipment and GIS software to map vegetation and habitats Data analysis Maintaining environmental compliance databases Communication/technical writing Gain experience working with land management and habitat restoration issues in urban and remote areas of Washington Gain experience implementing community-based stewardship projects Expand data collection and analysis skills Expand knowledge of Pacific Northwest fish and wildlife habitats and vegetation communities Gain knowledge of FERC licensing of hydroelectric power facilities and related settlement agreements Gain knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and permitting processes Learn best management practices for protection of fish and wildlife habitats and water quality during construction projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

This position is open to Seniors and Graduate students studying for either an undergraduate or graduate degree in fisheries, wildlife or botanical ecology, information systems, public policy or related program. Students must be ? enrolled in a school during the internship and maintain a GPA of 2.0 for undergraduates. Desired Qualifications: A competitive candidate will possess a background in: GIS skills, field ecology experience, studies in ecology, mathematics, sustainability, natural resource management, experience with water quality data, database skills and/or programming and analysis skills using R or other analysis packages.

Internship Duration and Hours: The timeframe of the internship will be May/June 2020 to August/September 2020. The candidate must be available to work 40 hours/week during the summer and up to 20 hours/week when classes are in session. Work hours will be flexible to accommodate the intern's academic schedule.
