"We work with a range of musicians depending on the project or occasion, but the guitar and 3 vocals is our main line up. Bastedo perform mainly original songs however in amongst their original work you will often hear a selection of carefully chosen covers. All are infused with Bastedo flavour. That is gorgeous 3 part harmonies and indominatable spirit. "It would be a shame not to take advantage of the massive catalogue of amazing and beautiful songs out there in the ether. We love singing and performing and more often than not, we include cover versions of songs we like and feel will inspire our audience and provide knowing reference points alongside our original material." PAUL YOUNG In the middle of the 1980s, Paul Young became one of the biggest pop stars in the world, creating a body of work that endures to this day. A blend of the old school and new school, he was the epitome of someone who had worked his way up from – quite literally – the factory floor to become a superstar, scoring number one singles on both sides of the Atlantic. When he broke through in 1983, his Anthony Price besuited look was one of two iconic pop images in the UK that year. The other was David Bowie, then under his serious moonlight. Paul Young was born in the rock’n’roll era and grew up during the beat boom. Born in Luton in January 1956, he took piano lessons, was a self- taught guitarist, and as a teenager, fell under the thrall of Island Records. Young loved Free and because of them, he began listening to things around the margins, things that they listened to. He wanted to play bass like Andy Fraser and sing like Paul Rodgers. “I was always drawn towards to blues and soul.” Young recalls. “Even though Free had had a hit with ‘All Right Now’, they were a blues band, they knew they needed a pop song, so they wrote a pop song, and it was a hit. But when you look at their other stuff, they went straight back to the blues.” In 1972, aged 16, Young took up a position at the Vauxhall manufacturing plant in Luton, serving an apprenticeship just like his father before him. -

SCREEN INTERNATIONAL AND BFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL REVEAL UK STARS OF TOMORROW 2015 London, Monday 5 October 2015: Screen International has today revealed its 2015 UK Stars of Tomorrow, a showcase of the UK and Ireland’s newest and most exciting actors, directors, writers and producers, eagerly-anticipated by the international film industry. They are being presented for the first time in a high-profile industry event at the BFI London Film Festival held in partnership with American Express (7-18 October). Following last year’s successful collaboration between the Festival and Stars of Tomorrow, this year’s talent will be introduced to leading lights from the international film industry in London for the Festival, including US casting directors, European and US producers, festival programmers and international filmmakers. The Stars of Tomorrow featured in a special photoshoot at BFI Southbank, published in industry trade magazine Screen International, will also be the special guests at an exclusive industry dinner during the Festival, hosted by British Council and the Casting Society of America (CSA). My dissertation director Sidney Dobrin consistently encouraged experimentation and even audacity in my writing. For the record, the first Mass Effect takes place in 2183, Mass Effect 2 takes place in 2185, and Mass Effect 3 kicks off in 2186. You get a few years to get yourself ready for the impending Reaper (sentient starship) invasion. You might even be able to stop it yourself. Remember, you probably know information (or can learn it by just reading the Jump) that could save a lot of lives if you can get people to believe you. Cerberus' (human supremacist organization headed by the Illusive Man) antics, the Collectors, all of that information could be resolved with less fuss if you can get the word out to the right people. Pioneering disabled-led theatre company Graeae has been a proud standard-bearer for protest and disability rights for many years. In conjunction with the final tour of their smash hit musical Reasons to be Cheerful, set in 1979 Thatcher’s Britain, Blockheads Chaz Jankel, Derek Hussey and cast member John Kelly have written a protest song for 2017, ‘If It Can’t Be Right Then It Must Be Wrong’. You can download the song here. As part of Graeae’s Reasons To Be Cheerful extensive community engagement programme, nearly 100 songwriters across the country have written and submitted their protest songs.
