Ashoke Kumar The boss's wife and leading actress of a leading Film Company runs off with her lead man. She is caught and taken back but not the lead man who is unceremoniously dismissed. So now the company needs a new hero. The boss decides his laboratory assistant would be the Film Company's next leading man. A bizzare film plot??? Hardly. This real life story starred the Bombay Talkies Film Company, it's boss Himansu Rai , lead actress Devika Rani and lead man Najam-ul-Hussain and last but not least its laboratory assistant Ashok Kumar. And thus began an extremely successful acting career that lasted six decades! Ashok Kumar aka Dadamoni was born Kumudlal Kunjilal Ganguly in Bhagalpur and grew up in Khandwa. He briefly studied law in Calcutta, then joined his future brother-in-law Shashadhar Mukherjee at Bombay Talkies as laboratory assistant before being made its leading man. Ashok Kumar made his debut opposite Devika Rani in Jeevan Naiya (1936) but became a well known face with Achut Kanya (1936) . Devika Rani and he did a string of films together - Izzat (1937) , Savitri (1937) , Nirmala (1938) among others but she was the bigger star and chief attraction in all those films. It was with his trio of hits opposite Leela Chitnis - Kangan (1939) , Bandhan (1940) and Jhoola (1941) that Ashok Kumar really came into his own. Going with the trend he sang his own songs and some of them like Main Ban ki Chidiya , Chal Chal re Naujawaan and Na Jaane Kidhar Aaj Meri Nao Chali Re were extremely popular! Ashok Kumar initiated a more natural style of acting compared to the prevaling style that followed theatrical trends. -

OF JHARKHAND, 4TH FLOOR, PROJECT BHAWAN, DHURWA, RANCHI- 834004 Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Dhanbad City of Jharkhand 1. BACKGROUND Dhanbad : Introduction The district of Dhanbad in the country occupies a unique place as an important resource region which is a part of the South‐East resource region. The resource is the coal, often termed as “Black Diamond”, a term which befits its importance as basic fuel in most industries. The Dhanbad district has the largest coal reserves, about 13,000 million tons of metallurgical coal. The region is most commonly identified as “Jharia Coal Field (JCF)” which is the one single depository of coal spread over an area of about 480 sq.kms. This has influenced the location of many coal‐oriented industries, such as fertilizers, washeries, coke plants, ceramic industry, pottery works, steel industries, lead and zinc smelting and numerous other engineering industries. In a relative perspective, the region could be linked to industrial zone of Asansol‐ Durgapur in the West Bengal and Jamshedpur – Chaibasa in the Jharkhand‐ the comparative elements being the Bokaro Steel Plant in the west, Sindri Fertilizer complex, Sulphuric Acid Plant and ACC Cement Factor in the south and a number of coal‐based chemical industries scattered around the coal‐belt. In this venture of coal mining, a number of new mining towns have sprung up in a chain, spreading from Dhanbad south‐wards upto Sindri and westwards upto Katras. -

PLACES OF INTEREST Bansgaon (Pargana Unaula, Tahsil Bansgaon) The place which is the headquarters of the tahsil of the same name is situated in Lat. 26ē 33' N. and long. 84ē 11'E. at a distance of 22 km. south of Gorakhpur. Bansgaon is built on a rising ground overlooking the Ami valley, which terminates in the wooded ridge that marks the line of the metalled road just before the commencement of the Tucker bandh (embankment). Originally, it is said, the place was occupied by the chauhans, but they were ousted by the Sarnets who still commemorate their conquest by assembling in the month of Asvina to offer sacrifice at the ancient shrine of Devi. Despite its large population Bansgaon is merely a village or rather a collection of villages, for there are really several mauzas with a common site, including Bansgaon urf Shahpur (Badain)Donkhar, Majhgawan, Marutia, Bahidandi, Bedauli, Balua Gopalpur urf Gopalpur and Baklaha, but the average inhabitant is quite content to name them all Bansgaon. The area of the component villages is assessed to a revenue of Rs.3884. The fair of Dasehra is held here on the 10th day of the bright half of Asvina attended by about 4,000 persons. The old tahsil buildings in Baraban (Babain) were abandoned in 1905 and are now used for a dispensary, started in 1907. Now it is a pucca building constructed by Zila Parishad. The new tahsil together with the sub-registrar's office stand a few hundred yards to the south. At a little distance to the east of the tahsil headquarters is an inspection house with a court room for the use of touring officers, erected in 1905. -

Background Under Section 4 of the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2000, the State Government may declare a town as a Municipal Corporation, a Municipality or a Notified Area Committee (N.A.C.), on the basis of a population of more than two lakh, not less than forty thousand and twelve thousand respectively and if the town has (1) an average number of not less than four hundred inhabitants per square Kilometer and (2) threefourth of the adult population are engaged on pursuits other than agriculture. The total population of Jharkhand State as per 2001 census was 26.95 million and the total population covered by the ULBs was 5.93 million. Two Municipal Corporations, 19 Municipalities and 18 NACs, declared by the State Government, fall under the jurisdiction of the State. Dhanbad Municipal Corporation was created (February 2006) by incorporating areas of Dhanbad Municipality and four NACs i.e. Jharia, Sindri, Katras and Chhatatand. The Municipal Corporations are governed by Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Act, 2001 whereas; Municipalities and NACs are governed by Jharkhand Municipal Act (JMA), 2000. The term of elected bodies of Municipal Corporation and Municipalities is five years. The State Government dissolved all local bodies during the period 1986 to 1995 and since then fresh elections were held only in March 2008 in 28 out of 39 ULBs. The other 11 ULBs are functioning without having elected bodies as yet. Elections in three ULBs * were not held due to pending court cases. Reason for nonholding of election in the remaining eight ULBs was not stated by the State Government.
