Dear Students and Parents:

I would like to welcome you to Providence Elementary School for the 2019-20 school year. It is an exciting time at Providence Elementary as we strive to meet the needs of our students from birth through th​ 6​ grade. I want to invite you to join our school community of students, parents, faculty, and staff as we begin our year together. Each staff member knows the great possibilities for our students and is ready to offer strategies and approaches that will reach each child and foster his/her growth and development. Together we can… accomplish great things!

The Student Handbook and the Webster County Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline are foundations for our school rules and policies. These rules serve as the framework for providing a safe and orderly educational environment for our students. We will also be continuing the 6 Pillars of Character Counts. This is a school, community, and district initiative. School policies and procedures pertaining to students during the school day and various school events can be found in this handbook. This document provides insight into our school and serves as an answer to many of the questions that you may have. Please read it carefully and discuss its contents.

I know the time you will spend at Providence Elementary will help to develop academic, social, emotional and behavioral growth. I encourage you to partner with us as we commit to high levels of expectations and instruction. Parental and community support is valued and welcomed and research shows it is one of the greatest predictors of academic success of our students. As a faculty we plan to provide our students with the foundation needed to build a successful future.

In order for the children of today to become the leaders of tomorrow – it requires teamwork from the home, school, and community. Throughout this year there will be opportunities for parental involvement. I also desire to communicate with you about issues that are of concern to you. Part of every child’s school success will be made possible by having good attendance. It is essential that each child be in attendance every day, receive educational support and assistance each night, and be encouraged to do his/her very best. We encourage parents to become an active members of our Parent Teacher Organization – jointly striving to provide opportunities and assistance for our students.

Providence Elementary School encourages parent/guardian and community support in school activities of our students. The following guidelines will assist in ensuring the safety of our students and staff during the school day. Visitors and volunteers are required by law to have a background check prior to volunteering at the school. These background checks are good for two years. Teachers will request and schedule volunteers in their individual class and provide clear directions of

duties to be carried out as needed. Due to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act), PES SBDM Council policy requires all volunteers to be trained in FERPA and confidentiality in the classroom prior to being eligible to assist during instructional time. A designated place will be provided for parents to volunteer in the following ways: laminating, cutting and trimming, copying, decorations-bulletin boards/posters/doors, help with parties and field trips or in any other way as specified by the teacher. Lunch visitation is not permissible unless prior approval and alternative seating arrangements have been made in advance and the crime check has been completed.

SMOKING POLICY Smoking is not permitted on school grounds during the school day or during any school sponsored events. We are a tobacco free campus. ​ CUSTODIAL PARENTS Parents who have legal custodian/guardianship must furnish a copy of the legal document to the school. Emergency contact persons and non-custodial parents who are not allowed to pick-up children should be listed on the student information form. The school will not get involved in custodial issues. ​ ​

MASTER SCHEDULE 7:15 A.M. All designated staff assigned to morning duty report to their respective areas. 7:20 A.M. School Building opens to parents, students, and visitors. 7:20 A.M. Buses arrive and are unloaded. 7:20 A.M. Students report to cafeteria for breakfast K-2, 3rd grade goes to their room and 4-6 in gym ​ ​ 7:50 A.M. Students arriving after this time are considered tardy and must report to the office. 3:00-3:35 P.M. All students are dismissed. ​ 3:35- Teachers are dismissed.

MORNING ARRIVAL PROCEDURES Building Access: The building opens each morning for students at 7:20 A.M. Students who walk ​ ​ or are driven to school should not arrive before 7:20 a.m. All doors to the school building are locked ​ ​ promptly at 7:50 a.m. Students arriving after 7:50 a.m. will be considered tardy and must be signed in at office by parent/guardian.

AFTER THIS TIME PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST ACCOMPANY STUDENT TO ATTENDANCE CLERK TO SIGN IN. Students are considered tardy after 7:50 a.m., and must be signed in at the office before going to class.

Bus Arrival: Buses will arrive at 7:20 a.m. Buses are unloaded in the bus lanes in the front of ​ the school gym. Car-Riders: Your cooperation in adhering to safe loading procedures is important for the safety ​ ​ of all students. No student will be allowed to be dismissed from gym area without proper notification from office. The student car-loading/unloading zone is next to the gymnasium. The traffic flow for cars is to enter through the Barbour Street Park Entrance and exit from the park by turning right only onto ​ ​ Broadway Street. PARKING ON THE PAVED AREA IN THE CAR LOADING AREA IS NOT ​ ALLOWED AT ANY TIME. REMINDER: ANY VISITORS THAT ENTER THE SCHOOL MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE THROUGH MAIN ENTRANCE. Walkers: Students walking to school must enter through the gym entrance. Students walking to ​ school will not be allowed to enter the building until 7:20 a.m. Building opens at 7:20 a.m. ​ 5

AFTERNOON DISMISSAL PROCEDURES Bus Riders: Bus riders will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m. ​ Walkers: Will be dismissed near 3:20 PM after car riders have been picked up. If parents need ​ ​ ​ their child before walkers are dismissed they must go inside to sign them out. Car Riders: Designated personnel will be on duty each afternoon at 3:00 p.m. until last car ​ departs. Every car rider will be issued a number and anyone picking that student up must display the ​ ​ same number before the student will be allowed to load the vehicle. NO STUDENT WILL BE ​ RELEASED FROM CAR RIDER AREA TO WALK-UP’S. IT IS NECESSARY THAT EVERYONE REMAIN IN CAR TO EXPEDITE DAILY DISMISSAL.

STUDENT DISMISSAL TRANSPORTATION CHANGES Dismissal/Transportation changes made by parents/guardians should be made at home prior to the beginning of the school day. A note should be sent to the teacher for submission to the office. Changes called in to the office should be reserved for emergency and unexpected reasons only. In the event that it is necessary to make changes during the school day, we ask that such calls be made prior to 12:00 p.m..

Students are allowed to ride their pre-assigned regular bus only. Alternative ​ transportation plans are responsibility of parent/guardian in the event that another student is to come over to the home of another. No additional students are allowed to ride the bus home with another student or to alternate addresses due to bus passenger legal restrictions. These procedures ​ are in place for the safety of our students and to prevent overcrowded busses. No exceptions. ​ CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES Check –In Procedures: When tardy (late check-in) or returning to school, parent/guardian ​ ​ ​ must sign student in on the check-in log with the attendance clerk and have a written parent excuse in order for the tardy to be excused. Tardy: Students are considered tardy at 7:50 a.m. A written parent excuse must be turned in at ​ the office in order to be excused. Excessive tardies will result in Webster County Code of Acceptable Behavior action and/or truancy procedures. Please refer to the attendance policy in Webster County Code of Acceptable Behavior for additional information. Check- Out Procedures: For the safety of our students only persons designated on the student's ​ ​ emergency list are allowed to check students out of school. All student check-outs are through the office. The check-out log must be signed by the person checking the student out and include the name of the student, date, time, and reason for dismissal. The student will be called to the office by school personnel. Students checked out prior to the official dismissal time will receive either an excused or unexcused absence/tardy depending on the reason for early dismissal. Custodial Parents: Parents who have legal custody/guardianship must furnish a copy of the ​ legal document to the school. Emergency contact persons and non-custodial parents who are ​ allowed to pick up children should be listed on the student information form. The school will not ​ ​ get involved in custodial issues.

ATTENDANCE

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Providence Elementary will follow attendance policy 09.123 ​ Student Absences and Excuses of the Webster County Board of Education. Please read the policy

6 carefully and become familiar with the requirements of this policy. The administrative support staff responsible for attendance will be administering the policies as they are stated in attendance documents approved by the Webster County Board of Education.

ABSENCES/MAKE-UP WORK Written Excuses: It is the parent's responsibility to ensure doctor excuses or parent ​ ​ ​ written notes have been turned in to the office upon returning to school after an absence or within three days of returning to school. Students must turn in their excuses to the office and obtain an admit ​ slip to class on the day of return. Make-up Work: Upon returning to school students who have been absent shall ask for ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ make-up work from their teacher or teachers. Make up work will be due after the third day upon ​ return from absence. In consideration of our school personnel, please notify the office of your intent to pick up absent work as soon as possible. Late make-up work will be treated the same as regular class work. BREAKFAST/LUNCH POLICY

All Providence Elementary School students are eligible for the free breakfast and lunch for the 2019-20 School year upon completion of the required paperwork.. Cafeteria Rules: In order to ​ ​ maintain an orderly, clean, environment, students are asked to follow these cafeteria guidelines: ● Keep eating areas clean. ● Remain in seat. ● Raise your hand and receive permission from the monitor to get up. ● Seats cannot be saved . ● Keep talking using an inside voice. ● Carbonated soft drinks and drinks in opened containers are not allowed.

Parents are invited to visit our cafeteria and have lunch with their child. Please remember 24 ​ hour approval of notice required prior to visit. After approval, visitors must sign in at the office and obtain a visitor’s badge.

ILLNESS OR INJURY In the event of illness or injury at school, persons listed on the emergency form will be called to pick up the student. For the safety of each student, please keep emergency information current by calling or sending written notice to the office for information changes.

MEDICATION Dispensing Medication: Students are expected to go to the nurse’s office when it is time to ​ ​ receive medication. If the nurse and nurse asst. is out of the building, students should report to the office to receive medication. The following guidelines are required for administering medication of any type to students: • Parent/guardian shall sign a medication permission form and return it to the school. • Parents/guardian must provide and deliver medication in the original prescription container, with the prescribed dosage. Most antibiotic prescriptions that call for three

doses daily can be administered at home. • All medication shall be registered with the nurse or office personnel and kept in the nurse’s office. • Non-prescription dispensing should be kept to a minimum and a medication permission form must also be completed. • A student may only be permitted to carry medication that has been prescribed or ordered by a physician to stay with the pupil due to a pressing medical need (i.e., an asthma inhaler). A medication form and doctor's note stating the necessity for the student to keep such medication in their position must be filed with the medication permission form.

LINK 2 LEARN DAYS ​ WHEN SCHOOL IS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS, STUDENTS WILL LIKELY HAVE L2L DAYS. PRIOR TO MISSING FOR BAD WEATHER THE SCHOOL WILL SEND HOME PACKETS FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE. EACH DAY MISSED SHOULD BE A DIFFERENT PACKET BUT THEY WILL BE SENT IN BUNDLES OF 3 DAYS. SO DAYS 1-3 SHOULD COME HOME TOGETHER. WE WILL SEND A ONE CALL TO REMIND PARENTS OF THE DAY THE PACKETS ARE COMING HOME. PLEASE PUT THE PACKETS IN A SAFE PLACE SO YOU WILL HAVE THEM EACH TIME WE HAVE A L2L DAY. THIS WILL SAVE THE SCHOOL MULTIPLE COPIES AND COPYING COSTS.

EMERGENCY DRILLS

IN THE EVENT OF A POWER OUTAGE, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO CALL THE SCHOOL. PHONE LINES MAY NOT WORK AND THE FRONT OFFICE WILL BE ESTABLISHING COMMUNICATION WITH THE POWER COMPANY OR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL. STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO CONTACT PARENTS BY CELL OR MESSENGER.

TORNADO DRILLS: The signal for a tornado drill will be announced over the intercom. A ​ ​ bullhorn will be used in case of power failure. All students are to move to their designated assigned areas with their teachers in an orderly fashion.

FIRE DRILLS: There will be monthly fire drills yearly as mandated by state law. During drills, ​ ​ students are to exit the building quickly in an orderly manner. There are fire alarms and extinguishers located throughout the facility. IMPROPER USE OF FIRE ALARMS OR FIRE ​ EXTINGUISHERS IS A VIOLATION OF STATE LAW AND THE WEBSTER COUNTY CODE OF CONDUCT.

EARTHQUAKE DRILLS: The intercom system, bells, or bullhorn may be used in the event of ​ an earthquake or earthquake drill. At the first sign of an earthquake drill, the following commands will be given: ● Immediately take cover under desks or tables, and turn away from windows; ● Remain in sheltered positions while being given further directives; 8

● Teachers or administrators will review evacuation procedures; ● Evacuation of the building will follow the same guidelines as fire drills.

LOCK DOWN DRILLS: In the event of an intruder, a lock down command will be given over ​ the intercom stating, "Lock down." Students will be moved to a safe zone at that time. Students shall ​ remain quiet and orderly during all emergencies and drills. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.

GENERAL EMERGENCY GUIDELINES: Parents are asked to listen to the radio in the ​ event of an actual emergency. Your assistance is needed to keep the phone lines clear so that emergency personnel can be contacted. In the event of an actual emergency, regular student check out procedures will be followed. Always keep the school posted of changes in a student's emergency card information.

INSURANCE Student Accident Insurance will be offered at reasonable rates. Forms for student accident insurance will be sent home at the beginning of the school year. The school is not responsible for ​ accidents occurring during school, on the school grounds, or in the classroom.

WEBSTER COUNTY CODE OF ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR AND DISCIPLINE The Webster County Unified Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline handbook is available on District website and instruction given to each student in the Webster County School District. It is ​ the responsibility of every parent and student to read this handbook and be familiar with this information. Should you have any questions concerning policies in this handbook, please contact the ​ school for clarification. Among areas addressed in this handbook are: ● Discipline policy ● Attendance policy ● Promotion and Retention policy ● Transportation policy ● Drugs/alcohol policy ● Admissions policy

DETENTION______

Detention may be assigned for violation of offenses. Detention may be assigned by teachers ​ or the principal and will be held on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in designated area as needed. Detention will be supervised by a designated teacher. Students are expected to attend and ​ ​ 9 be on time for detention. Failure to serve detention may result in additional time added/or other discipline procedures according to the District Code of Conduct. Notification will be sent home with student and via parent contact.

ATHLETICS All students participating in athletic events are required to follow the academic requirements established in the Webster County Athletic Handbook. A copy of the W.C. Athletic Handbook is available to all athletes. Student athletes are not allowed to leave school early for middle school or ​ high school athletic events and must be in good academic standing to participate.

TELEPHONES School Phones: Office phones are for school business and student emergencies. Students and ​ teachers will not be called out of class for non-emergency phone calls. Parents/individuals wishing to speak to teachers should do so during teacher planning times, before, or after school. Calls will not be transferred to the classroom during teacher instruction. Parents will not be allowed to talk with students during the instructional day unless it ​ is a medical or family emergency. Mrs. Carol Hill, school secretary, will take a message and deliver to students in a timely manner.

Students may only use school phones with the permission of school personnel. Students are not allowed to use school phones in the library or computer lab or make long distance calls.

Cell Phones: Students are not allowed to use or have cell phones visible during the school ​ ​ day for calling, texting, taking pictures, video, or for any other purpose. Prohibited use or visibility ​ ​ of cell phones will result in confiscation. Providence Elementary SBDM policy regarding cell phones reads as follows:

CELL PHONES : According to the Webster County Code of Conduct: Paging devices, cell phones, or other ​ personal telecommunication devices, are not permitted to be visible and are not permitted to be used during school hours. This includes but is not limited to receiving calls, making calls, text messaging, playing games, taking/sending photographs. Failure to adhere to his policy will result in the following:

● First Offense - Phone will be taken from student for the day, student will sign acknowledgment binder and ​ phone will be given back to student at the end of day. ● Second Offense - Phone will be taken from student for the remainder of the day, student will sign acknowledgement binder, and parents will need to pick up phone from school. ● Third Offense – Phone will be taken from student for the remainder of the day, student will sign ​ acknowledgement binder and phone will not be permitted back at school. Parent will need to pick phone up at school. Detention will be given.

In the event of a 4th offense, the phone will remain with the principal.

PRINCIPAL’S LIST AND HONOR ROLL Students in grades 3-6 who achieve “A” letter grades in all contents including PE and Arts/Humanities are eligible for the Principal's List and Honor Roll for “A” and “B” grades. The Principal's List and the Honor Roll list are sent to the Sebree Banner, the Providence Journal Enterprise, and may be recognized at Student of the Month Assembly 10

RECESS/BREAK/SPA All students are to go outside for recess/break as much as possible. A note from the parent is ​ required each time they are requesting their child stay indoors. A doctor's excuse will be required if the child has a need to stay indoors for more than three days. ​

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE It will be the policy of Providence Elementary/Middle School to give students and staff the opportunity to stand and say the "Pledge of Allegiance" to the flag of the United States of America each morning. Any student or staff who do not want to participate because of religious or political beliefs may remain in their seats. However, any individual not participating shall not disrupt others during the pledge

PROVIDENCE SCHOOL BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS Providence School is proud to be a partner with the Center for Instructional Discipline (KYCID). KYCID is a Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) program which believes behavior and academics are equally important for student success. In conjunction with our Drug Free Communities Grant, Webster County Schools and communities are teaming to implement the Six Pillars of Character from the Character Counts program. These pillars include: Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, Caring, Trustworthiness, and Fairness. All student and teacher behavioral expectations will be based on these 6 Pillars of Character Counts. All students will follow the guidelines of BARK- B=Be prepared; A=Act responsibly; ​ ​ R=Respect Others; K=Keep Learning ​

BULLYING/HAZING DEFINED In order to effectively participate in the democratic process as adults, students must learn to respect the rights of others and to interact with them in a civil manner. Therefore, students are required to speak and behave in a civil manner toward students, staff and visitors to the schools. The use of lewd, profane or vulgar language is prohibited. In addition, students shall not engage in behaviors such as hazing, bullying, menacing, taunting, intimidating, verbal or physical abuse of others, or other threatening behavior.1 This policy extends to any/all student ​ language or behavior including, but not limited to, the use of electronic or online methods. Such behavior is disruptive of the educational process and interferes with the ability of other students to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered. These provisions shall not be interpreted to prohibit civil exchange of opinions or debate protected under the state or federal constitutions where the opinion expressed does not otherwise materially or substantially disrupt the education process or intrude upon the rights of others. Students who violate this policy shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action. Bullying means any unwanted verbal, physical, or social behavior among students that involves a real or perceived power imbalance and is repeated or has the potential to be repeated:

1. That occurs on school premises, on school-sponsored transportation, or at a school-sponsored event: or 2. That disrupts the education process. This definition shall not be interpreted to prohibit civil exchange of opinions or debate or cultural practices protected under the state or federal Constitution where the opinion expressed does not otherwise materially or substantially disrupt the education process.

DRESS CODE Clothing or apparel that is considered inappropriate, disruptive, or unsafe will not be allowed. This includes hats, caps, sun visors, sunglasses, inappropriate head apparel, jeans with holes above the knees, leggings/jeggings/yoga pants unless the shirt/sweater or tunic is long enough to cover to the hips and upper thighs, and see through shirts or bare midriffs/buttocks. Students will not be allowed to wear hoods during the day. Clothing which represents drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, sex, gang names/symbols/graffiti/pictures, making prejudice statements, etc., will not be allowed. Pajamas shall not be worn to school unless it is a school wide or classroom reward or special event. At administrative discretion, students violating the dress code may be asked to call home for a change of clothing or use the FRYSC for a change of clothes

GRADING/REPORTING SYSTEM All teachers shall maintain detailed, systematic records of the achievement of each student and shall report every nine weeks to the parent or guardian on the progress of their child. Interim reports will be sent home at the mid-point of each nine week period. A student’s grade shall not be lowered as a disciplinary action. Each primary teacher shall provide parents with a comprehensive report that is based on samples of their child’s work and that includes descriptive, narrative evaluation of all aspects of the child’s progress. Students in grades 4-6, will be given numerical grades from a computer generated report. The th th grading scale for 4 ​ -6 ​ is: A = 90-100; B = 80-89; C= 70-79;D = 60-69; F= 59-Below. ​ ​ PARENT- TEACHER CONFERENCES. ​ At no time should students or parents be in doubt of a student’s progress. Parents will be notified through the interim report, report cards, Infinite Campus Parent Portal, and parent-teacher conferences. There will be two conferences – one held at the end of the first nine weeks and a second held at end of third nine weeks. If you have any questions at any time, you are encouraged to contact the school to set up a scheduled meeting time that is convenient for everyone. Teacher conferences need to be before or after school or at a time convenient to both during the day. YOU ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO CHECK YOUR CHILD’S GRADES OFTEN USING THE INFINITE CAMPUS PARENT PORTAL.

PROMOTION AND RETENTION POLICY Primary School: Primary students will be permitted to develop and learn at their own pace on a ​ ​ continuous basis throughout the primary program. Primary students are offered multiage opportunities. Students who need more time to complete the basic curriculum of primary skills may be allowed five years for successful completion of the Primary Program. Names of students who are not making adequate progress toward mastery of skills will be submitted to the principal and school guidance counselor. A letter will be mailed to the parent describing academic, social, and behavioral concerns related to the student’s progress. A parent conference will be scheduled by the guidance counselor to 12 discuss possible retention. Parent/Teacher communication must be documented throughout the school year to ensure progress and data indicators support retention. Grades 4-6: Names of students who are not making adequate progress/receiving failing grades ​ ​ in two or more subjects will be submitted to the principal and school guidance counselor. A committee made up of the principal, classroom teacher, guidance counselor, and special services teacher will review students being considered for retention. Parent/Teacher communication must be documented throughout the school year to ensure progress and data indicators support retention. The committee shall take into consideration the number of times the student has been retained, the age of the student compared to peers, and whether the child has a current Individual Educational Plan (IEP). A letter will be mailed to the parent describing academic, social, and behavioral concerns related to the student’s progress. A parent conference will be scheduled by the guidance counselor and or principal to discuss possible retention.

TEXTBOOKS/LIBRARY MATERIALS All basic textbooks are loaned to students without charge for their use during the school term. Student names shall be placed in the designated area of their textbook. Library materials are also available for check out from the school library. A fine will be charged for abused, lost, or overdue books and library materials. The amount of the fine is based upon the age of the book and/or damage to the book or materials. Students with overdue fines, etc. may be withheld from participation in special school activities such as graduation exercises, field trips, field day, and will not be allowed to checkout books the next school year.

REPORTING OF CHILD ABUSE Any teacher, school administrator, or other school personnel who knows or has reasonable cause to believe that a child under age eighteen (18) is dependent, abused or neglected1 shall immediately make a report to a local law enforcement agency or the ​ Kentucky State Police, the Cabinet for Heath and Family Services or its designated representative, the Commonwealth's Attorney or the County Attorney in accordance with KRS 620.030.2 ​

INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT July 1, 2002, the Kentucky Pesticide Regulations for school systems put into effect an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. A key difference between IPM and the traditional pest control is the IPM uses "action thresholds". The technicians will monitor and do sanitation inspections, pest proofing, and take other steps to prevent pest problems. IPM does not depend on automatic application of pesticides. When possible, pesticide applications will be done during non-instructional time when students are not in the building such as summer break, fall break, Christmas break, and spring break. We will post a 24-hour notice when pest treatment will occur in the building. If you would like to be placed on a call list for 24-hour notice, you ​ will need to notify the school no later than two weeks following the student's enrollment. This notice ​ would only be important for individuals that want to be notified when the school is going to be treated. Please note that students are not in the school during routine pest application

FAMILY EDUCATION RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

In accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Acts (FERPA), parents shall have the right to inspect and review educational records relating to their child. This right shall be passed on to the student at age eighteen (18). Written policies have been developed which specify the types and location of education records, as well as, specific procedures for the review of records; the amendment of or hearing concerning records to be inaccurate, misleading or in violation of the privacy rights or other rights of the child; the disclosure of records; and the destruction of records. Legal evidence will have to be provided to the school if any changes in parental rights or supervision occur.

Student Directory Notification Request: Providence Elementary will release the following ​ ​ student directory information: name, address, phone number, birthday, for participation in officially recognized school activities/sports for recognition. Any parent/guardian who wishes to withhold their child's student directory information please sign the attached form and return it to the school office within thirty (30) days of the first day of school. Signing this form will restrict the student from appearing in the yearbook, on the published Principal/Honor Roll list, or school related stories that appear in the newspapers.

SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS LIVING IN TRANSITION (HOMELESS) Students or families living in one or more of the following conditions may receive support from the school through Title I and the school’s Family Resource Center. The Transitional Student Services Program works with teachers, guidance counselors, family resource staff, local service organizations, and shelters to insure that every child is equipped for academic success. Homeless/Transition Living Conditions:

• Living with friends or family because they cannot find or afford housing ​ ​ • In motel, hotel, (camping) trailer park, or campgrounds ​ ​ • In emergency or transitional shelters ​ ​ • On the street or in a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a ​ ​ regular sleeping place

• In temporary foster care ​ ​ • With friends or family because they are an unaccompanied youth (not in physical ​ ​ custody of parent or guardian) Homeless/Transition Student Support Service Program may provide:

• Immediate school placement and assistance with registration and ​ ​ transportation

• Assistance coordinating medical and other school records ​ ​ • Start-up School Supplies, materials, books, & personal items as needed ​ ​
