SINGLE-BOARD COMPUTER Banana vs. Raspberry

Banana Pi is an open-source single-board computer from Sinovoip (China). It is equipped with a 1-GHz Allwinner A20 Cortex ARM7 dual-core CPU, which makes it faster than the , but also more expensive (about € 30 vs. € 49).

DESPITE ITS NAME, THE IS NOT A FOLLOW UP VERSION of the Raspberry, but a clone from China. The product weights 48 g and has obtained CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications. It features 1 GiB DDR3 SD-RAM, a built-in Gigabit port, a HDMI interface, and a SATA socket. For on-board storage an SD card is required, with a minimum size of 4 GiB and a maximum size of 64 GiB, class 4. The user can connect a mobile hard disk to the SATA port to store more files.

Optionally, the board computer offers Wifi and a CSI input connector allows the connection of a camera module. Two USB 2.0 ports are available directly from the A20 . Via the GPIO (2X13) pin, GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, ADC, PWM, +3,3 V, and +5 V, are available. For power, micro USB power supply that can provide at least 700 mA at 5 V is essential. For that, many mobile Front side phone chargers are suitable.

The single-board computer can run the operating systems Raspberry Pi, , and Android 4.2. According to the producer, the Banana Pi is fully compatible with the Raspberry Pi. Raspberry Pi modules supposedly work with the Banana Pi too. Because of their slightly different sizes, this seems at least doubtable. In future, Banana Pi will expand to develop Scratch. At the moment, the computer is already out of stock, but according to the seller, it will be available again in five weeks. qwurzdf.
