DEBUT (DELUXE EDITION)

“Sublime... Buckley-esque singer songwriter” - TIME OUT

“An accomplished debut… His gritty, committed vocal adds force to the superior- grade songwriting. If you like Damien Rice and John Martyn, you'll find much to enjoy here” - **** GUITARIST MAGAZINE

“An intriguing mix which… elevates the songs above the usual singer-songwriter fare” - ACOUSTIC MAGAZINE

Alex Taylor grew up in South , the youngest son of celebrated jazz legends John Taylor and Norma Winstone.

Already compared by reviewers to the likes of Damien Rice and Jeff Buckley, Alex is one of the shining lights of Bristol’s renowned music scene and a troubadour of world-class standing. When you see him perform live, prepare yourself for an energetic and passionate vocal performance, dextrous and original acoustic playing and some loop pedal trickery for good measure.

HIS DEBUT FEATURES SOME OF THE UK’S TOP TALENT:

 JIM BARR (PORTISHEAD) – Bass  LEO TAYLOR (, THE INVISIBLE) – Drums  ANGELO BRUSCHINI (MASSIVE ATTACK) – Guitar  TOM HERBERT (POLAR BEAR, THE INVISIBLE) – Bass  BETH PORTER (THE CEDAR, BABEL) – Cello  CHRISTIAN O’DONNELL (SAVAGE GARDEN) – Guitars  JAMES GARDINER-BATEMAN (JOSS STONE) – Sax  DAN MOORE (PHANTOM LIMB) – Piano, Hammond and Rhodes

“I’m so pleased with the record and feel so privileged to have such a wonderful group of musicians playing on it,” Alex says of the album’s all-star cast. “It’s inspiring to know that these über-talented players want to work with you on your own music, and help you by giving so much of themselves in improvisation and experimentation. It gives you that extra push to really bring your best game. I’m really looking forward to taking the songs out on the road, I can hardly wait!”

Alex made his musical connections in Bristol after having been a gigging musician and jobbing actor in London. He struck up a friendship with Tears For Fears drummer Manny Elias over beers and Roger Linn analogue samplers, and the two began recording demos.

Once established on the Bristol music scene, Alex sang with the likes of Starecase, new country favourites Phantom Limb, and also toured with Kosheen, playing venues such as Academy. Alex also sessioned with Roni Size and members of Massive Attack, and worked with Portishead bassist Jim Barr on this album’s early sessions.

His ten-track debut splices elements of jazz, acoustic folk and electronica to place Alex’s powerful, shape-shifting voice firmly in the spotlight.

With the paint barely dry on his finely crafted debut, Alex is already working on new material with the aim to keep touring, writing and recording another album in 2013… Watch this space.
