How do I decide which chapter to join? A: Although each sorority and fraternity is unique in its members, they all share common founding FAQ principles that are of interest to any Eastern Kentucky University student. Greek organizations enhance your educational experience by emphasizing intellectual, interpersonal and social development. Greek members strive for the ideals of lifelong friendship, a sound education, campus and community service, and social interaction. Participation in recruitment/intake will help make your decision! How much does it cost to join a chapter? A: Cost varies from chapter to chapter. During recruitment/intake, chapters will have information regarding their dues and what their dues cover. Most have payment plans that can be customized for you! Average new member cost is $525 and the average active semester dues are $240.

Are there fraternity and sorority houses? Do I have to live there? A: Most of our chapters are housed in the Greek Towers (Todd and Dupree halls). Greek Towers is located across the street from the Powell Student Center, right in the heart of campus. Chapters living in Greek Towers have their own requirements for living on the chapter floor. Chapters will have information regarding their floor requirements available during recruitment/intake. What are the GPA requirements to join? A: Each chapter has their own GPA requirement to initiate, but the average for all chapters is 2.5 or higher. Make to ask the chapter you are interested in their GPA requirement for membership!

What about ? A: Hazing is against Kentucky state law, University policy and is in violation of the (inter)national organization policy for each chapter at EKU. A copy of the University Hazing Policy can be found online at www.greeklife.eku.edu. Hazing can be reported online or by contacting our Hazing Hotline, 859-622-7897. What are the responsibilities of Greek membership? A: Commitment to the principles, values and standards, for which the (inter)national organization was founded upon. Participation in chapter activities such as meetings, educational/leadership programs, philanthropic events, and social activities are also encouraged and required for some chapters. Payment of dues each semester is required to remain in good standing. All of our chapters have a minimum grade requirement in order to be in good standing as well. Make sure to ask questions of each chapter about their membership requirements. What is the Interfraternity Council (IFC)? A: IFC is the governing body for our IFC fraternities. IFC hold recruitment events as a council each FAQ semester. The fraternities affiliated with IFC include: Phi Delta Theta Kappa Kappa Tau Average IFC Chapter Dues (10 chapters reporting) New Member Semester: $361 Active Semesters: $345 What is the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)? A: NPHC is the governing body for our NPHC sororities and fraternities. NPHC chapters will individually announce their dates for intake. Average IFC Chapter Dues (2 chapters reporting) New Member Semester: $642.50 Active Semesters: $37.50 What is the Panhellenic Council (PH)? A: Panhellenic is the governing body for our National Panhellenic Conference sororities. PH holds formal recruitment in the fall semester and some chapters will hold recruitment events in the spring. Our NPC chapters are: Average IFC Chapter Dues (8 chapters reporting) New Member Semester: $571 Active Semesters: $335 Are fraternities and sororities at EKU like the ones on TV and in movies? A: No! Greek organizations do have social events, but most of them do not involve alcohol. Greek social events include: community service events, intramural sports, educational programs, homecoming, Greek Weekend, family days, brotherhood/sisterhood events along with mixers and formals. Greek chapters have strict guidelines and procedures concerning the availability of alcohol at chapters events and these rules are enforced by their (inter)national organizations, the university and by internal chapter standards. How much time should I plan on devoting if I join a Greek chapter? A: Like any extra-curricular activity, how much you get outro g your Greek membership is related to how much you put in. On average, expect to contribute two to four hours per week for meetings and mandatory activities. Optional activities such as holding an office, attending social events, playing on an intramural sports team, or volunteering will or course take additional time. Be sure to ask questions regarding time commitments during recruitment/intake events. Will membership in a sorority/fraternity affect my grades? A: Academic achievement is a priority for all Greek organizations. Many enforce grade point average requirements and offer study sessions, tutoring, and other programs to assist members to achieve their potential. Students who take advantage of the academic opportunities available and properly balance their time between academics and extra-curricular pursuits will find that Greek membership will enhance their academic performance.
