The team were tasked with two search areas, just north of the M62 in the vicinity of Dog Hill, which were completed without Incident. The Party Leaders were Pete Caulton and Richie Cooper. During mid-afternoon the team were tasked with another area, Searching a Clough in Wessenden Moor area, finding and Evacuating two casualties. From our point of view the Exercise went well, although there was very little contact with other teams. WX: Very cold wind with squally showers. THE TEAM PROCEEDED TO THE DESIGNATED RV POINT, LONGTOWN MOUNTAIN RESCUE POST (161/322290) AND WERE KEPT ON STANDBY WHILST THE TL, SGT WINN AND WOP, SAC ELLIS WENT TO CONTACT THE ST ATHAN TL AT CRASH SITE. ON ARRIVAL AT THE CRASH SITE, ST ATHAN MRT WERE IN THE PROCESS OF STANDING DOWN AND OUR ASSISTANCE WAS NO LONGER REQUIRED. THE TEAM WERE STOOD DOWN AND RETURNED TO BASE. OTHER SAR FORCES INVOLED: ‘A’ FLT, 22 SQN, RAF CHIVENOR. RAF ST ATHAN MRT COMMENTS ON EQUIPMENT: CELLPHONE PROVED INVALUABLE IN THIS SITUATION BY ALLOWING THE TL TO ARRANGE POLICE ESCORTS IN BUILT UP AREAS, WHILST ON THE MOVE. THIS TIME, IT LEFT THE TL WITH THE PROBLEM OF HAVING THE MRT AT THE INCIDENT SITE, WHILST THE BEDFORD AND ITS EQUIPMENT WERE STRANDED ON THE M5. HAD WE HAD TWO LOAD CARRIERS THIS AWKWARD SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN ALLEVIATED. Wales DATE OF INCIDENT : 17TH Feb 90 NARRATIVE: CPL Shaw plus 9 were requested by the North Wales Police, to assist Ogwen Valley MRT and Sarda in search for 2 missing hill walkers last sighted on Carnedd Dafydd during the afternoon of Friday the 16th of February.
