Newsletter #34 2019 04 October 2019 Dear Parents,

Last night we were treated once again to the magic of what makes our school so unique and special. We gathered in the DAQ with the full Community to celebrate the successes of our pupils across all the grades for the year. The evening started with a report from the Governing Body Chairman, Werner Thetard, where he mentioned what the school offers and the plans for 2020. This includes adding EGD (Engineering, Graphics and Design) as a new subject to our offering in Grade 10. He also flagged some of our “big dreams“ which include covering and heating the pool, putting in astro, and building an Environmental Classroom. Then I had a chance to address the school, and I took this opportunity to remind the school that Camps Bay is a brand, and I flagged some of the unique aspects of our special brand. Here I mentioned things like playing a team sport, serving others, learning to be kind, discovering what we stand for and finding our voice to speak out for others who have no voice. To make this point, I cited the example of us speaking out against violence against women and children. Later in the evening our Head Prefect, Hannah Barnes, took the time to thank all the staff, both academic and support, for the work that they are all doing in support of each pupil’s teaching and learning experience at Camps Bay High School.

As an integral part of the evening, we were treated to numerous performances from pupils through the medium of dance, drama and music. Again I was reminded just how fortunate we are to have pupils who are talented in these areas. However, the real focus of the evening was to celebrate our top Academics in 2019. It is always amazing to hear what each pupil has managed to achieve. A full list of all the winners will be included in next week’s newsletter.

The evening ended with the announcement of the 2020 prefects, and the 2019 prefects were thanked for their service and symbolically gave up their seats, which are taken by the newly elected prefects. We are delighted with the new prefects for 2020.

Congratulations to the Prefects for 2020 who were elected by their peers and teachers and announced at last night's Celebration. They are:
