Disclaimer The views expressed in this Newsletter may not be those of the EAOVC. Welcome to the February EAOVC Newsletter. George Doran past away on the weekend before Christmas. George was a longstanding member of the club, one of the first members from when it was first formed 25 years ago. He was a regular at the Cavalcade, attending all the runs up to and including 2012 when ill health forced him off the road. He still kept up to date by keeping in touch with members and receiving copies of the newsletter. He will be sadly missed. In a note to our club Chairman, Norman Neill, the family appreciated Derek Clark for his words on behalf of the EAOVC at the funeral. On a brighter note Ken McMaster is steadily improving having been in a out of hospital for a few months and wishes to thank all members for their concern. “ I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chairman and the members of the club for the lovely basket of fruit. It was very well received and enjoyed. Things are improving. I hope to be out and about very shortly. Thank-you ”

Ken & Irene McMaster

David Lauro also sends his thanks for the the support he received form the club during his illness in the latter part of 2016 and is continuing in his recovery.

2016 Annual General Meeting As you will be aware the EAOVC AGM took place at the Loughshore Hotel, on Tues 1st November 2016. The Officers of the club are in the middle of their two year period, we still are looking for a club secretary. Gavin Millar, who is standing in at present does not wish continue in this role indefinitely, and is only doing so to keep the club running smoothly. We are urgently looking for someone to take on the role permanently. If you are interested, please let Gavin know as soon as possible. Experience, although it would help, is not necessary, as this would be a gradual change over with plenty of help from the rest of the committee. Hope House Ireland was chosen as Charity for the 2017 Portrush Cavalcade. The charity provide an apartment by the sea where those going through cancer could rest and recuperate, free of any charge and also to benefit anyone travelling long distances. They chose the apartment on Whitehead promenade because of the beautiful sea-view and walks. They began renting it in March 2014. The apartment is only a 5 minute walk from the train station that provides a train that leaves guests at the entrance of the City hospital which is approximately 14 miles from Whitehead

Also in the AGM, with costs rising as well as income from the static displays diminishing, it was put to the members that membership fees would need to be raised by five pounds. After a short discussion the motion was carried. Unfortunately this means that membership fees have now been raised to £20 (£15 for Over 65) rates. This is the first rise in nearly 17 years. Joint members still maintain their £5 discount and new members will still have an additional £5 charge. Please remember to get your membership fees paid before 31st March to avoid this charge. You will have receive your membership form pre-filled in all you need to is check that your details are correct and return the form with your cheque. NB if you pay by Standing Order you will need to inform your bank of the increase in payment or send in a cheque for the difference.

Christmas Supper. The December meeting replaced by the Annual Christmas Supper. There was a hot buffet as well as sandwiches, tea & coffee and mince pies laid on on for members and their guests. As usual this was well attended and went off with very few problems or complaints. On a note about the Hotel and their staff, I would like to thank them for their hard work over, not only last year but for the all the years the club has been with them. The Loughshore Hotel (to give them there full title), formally The Clarion, have been the base for this club from early days of the club’s inception. Although not free, where is these days, over the years it has hosted our monthly meetings and has been the starting point of many of our runs as well as hosting dinners at the finish of others. Long may this relationship continue. 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner Dance Saturday 11th March 2017 at 7pm - late. For those of you not aware, it is 25 years since the club first was formed. In the early days the club was a split from the Carrickfergus Tractor Club, although who split from who depends on why you ask. Among the founding members of the club was Eric Lynn, Dennis Higginson, John Magill,George Dornan, Mick Dowey and Billy Peoples, father of current club member William who is organiser for this event. The first meeting was held in Dennis Higginsons’s house before moving to the Courtaulds Club. They then moved to The Fergus Inn which, after a few new owners and a couple of name changes it is now The Belfast Loughshore Hotel where we still meet today. This year’s Annual Dinner Dance will be a celebration of the club’s first 25 years as well as looking forward to the next. With the help of the Loughshore Hotel and sponsors such as Cannon Motors this will be a very special night. There will be a special presentation, courtesy of Cannon Motors for all fully paid up members that attend. As usual there we will start with a drinks reception before the we sit down for our 3 course meal. We will have live music form ‘Zolene and the A. L. S. Band’ as well as the usual fun and games in between. Professional Motorcyclist Alistair Seeley (from Carrickfergus) will also be joining us for the evening. With 17 wins at the Northwest 200 he is one of the most successful riders at the Portrush circuit. There will also be a photographer there for photo's of guests for those interested. The photos can be selected and printed for purchase on the night. This Dinner Dance will be held at the Loughshore Hotel on Saturday 11th March at 7pm. Tickets are available for £25 per person. Contact: William Peoples Tel: 07808 361334 Email: [email protected] This will be a very special night for the club and already is proving very popular so please get your tickets early. Tickets will NOT be available on the night. Kilbroney Vintage Show Saturday 17th June 2017

As our members will be aware the Kilbroney Vintage show will be held on Saturday 17 June this year. The show is one of the biggest show north of the border and attracts visitors from all over the island. The entry form is now on the website available to download and we are asking all members to return it to the Secretary so as we can return them in bulk John Taylor Kilbroney 2016 to keep all the members of the EAOVC together in the program and have enough space on the stand for all our members and guests. This was a great success last year with over thirty cars from the club on our stand and more cars parked about the show. This year we would like to see more. The entries should be with the Secretary by the 1st of May, giving Gavin time to get them to the organisers. As usual our club stand will be there from early morning for our members.
