Piacenza Old fortress for sale near

DESCRIPTION This 15th-century castle surrounded by nature is for sale in the province of Piacenza. It was commissioned by Rolando Pallavicino as he wanted to realise a fortified military stronghold, but the first documents regarding this fortress date back to 1298, when the town of Cremona fortified the hamlet. When Pallavicino died the building was yet to be completed. This was done by his son Carlo, bishop of Lodi, who used the palace as a summer home and adorned it with wonderful paintings. This luxury castle for sale is one of the most majestic defensive buildings in the lower Valley and, as such, features a typical structure made of fired bricks, has a square plan that surrounds an internal courtyard with round arches, and four spectacular cylindrical towers protruding from the corners. The apartments making up the noble part of the castle are on the first floor and still feature 18th- century decorations on the walls and halls with frescoes depicting allegories of the seasons. The private chapel, which is a true gem full of charm and priceless works of art, can be accessed from the noble apartments and features a wonderful cycle of 15th-century frescoes depicting angels,

We can still breath in this building's enchanting military history and very charming atmosphere on this castle's majestic towers, keeps and walls where we can still read some graffiti left by prisoners.

TECHNICAL DETAILS LOCATION Piacenza is located in the heart of on the right side of the river, at the confluence of the River on the west with the stream on the east, and it is surrounded by hills. Its geographic location was militarily strategic and has also determined its current function as an important railway and road hub. Founded as a Roman colony with Cremona in 218 b.C., Piacenza was sacked several times due to its boundary location. However, over time it became a powerful colony and one of the most renowned cities of the Po valley area. Piacenza was governed by bishops from the 9th century to 1090, then it became a city-state and one of the founders of the League. Afterwards, it was ruled by the Visconti and by the Sforza until 1449, when it became part of the State of the Church and then capital of the and Piacenza. After the Napoleonic Age, when our castle for sale was built, Piacenza was ruled by Marie-Louise of Hapsburg and then by the House of Bourbon until 1859. Its thousand-year-history has contributed to creating its relevant artistic heritage. Monuments of great interest are the Cathedral, the Basilica of Sant’Antonino, the Basilica of San Savino and the Renaissance Basilica of Santa Maria di Campagna, as well as the various aristocratic and bourgeois palaces. From these comes the definition of "the city of palaces" which defines Piacenza par excellence. Besides the Museum of Natural History and the Ricci Oddi Modern Art Gallery the town has different Medieval and Renaissance museums. Piacenza's area is mostly hilly and mountainous, but it is also divided into different valleys. Many natural parks are present such as the Provincial Park of Mount Moria and the Reserve of the Piacenza Area.
