Gail Kent Director "CNECT G. Data"

Gail Kent is an official of the European Commission, based in Luxembourg. She is Director of Data in one of the largest Directorate Generals (DG CONNECT – Communications Networks, Content & Technology) and was throughout 2016 the acting Deputy Director General.

She studied at Cranfield University - Cranfield School of Management (MBA) and at University College London (BSc Econ). Her current responsibilities include both policy and programme management in the fields of Data Economy, promoting cultural heritage and removing digital barriers, such as language and accessibility. Last but not least, her Directorate promotes a better Internet for Children through the protection and empowerment of children online.

Frank Scholze Director General German National Library

Frank Scholze is the Director General of the German National Library (DNB) Previously he was the Director of Library Services at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Frank has a MA in Art History and English Language and Literature from Stuttgart University and BA in Library and Information Science from Stuttgart Media University (HdM).

Harry is responsible for making sure that we meet our objectives as an organisation, and do that well. What he likes to do more than anything else though is to design and implement new business models that will change our way of thinking about heritage as an enabler of societal and economic growth. Quite taken lately by the developments of the sharing economy. A visual thinker, he needs a white board as much as a strong coffee. Mediocre football player, reasonable cook, aspiring photographer.

Julia Fallon Community and Partner Engagement Manager Europeana Foundation

Julia is the chair of the rights statements consortium. At Europeana, she is the manager of the Community and Partner Engagement Team - together we support the development of professionals and organizations working in and around digital cultural heritage. Together we lead the development of our digital programme & a knowledge hub of events, webinars and resources all supporting the sector in their digital transformation journey. Also passionate about supporting emerging professionals & advocating for inclusive and diverse conversations.

Paul Keller Publicspace.online Independent

Paul Keller is an activist and consultant working on the intersections of digital policy, copyright, technology and cultural heritage. On behalf of cultural heritage institutions he advocates for more flexible copyright policies that better align with the needs of an inclusive digital society. Paul serves as an expert observer on the Europeana Foundation Board.

In the past, as director of Kennisland, Paul has been instrumental in writing Europeana's Public Domain Charter and developing the Europeana Licensing Framework as well as the Europeana Publication Framework.

Dorothea Zechmann Head of Central Administration German National Library

In 1991, after studying law, politics and empirical cultural science at the Universities of Freiburg and Tübingen and having completed legal clerkship, starting at Deutsche Telekom Group. Performing various functions, since 1998 in a managerial position, i. e. labour law and collective bargaining; human resources; copyright, media and telecommunication law; competition and antitrust law; data protection; business area multimedia and broadcasting; compliance management, public policy and regulatory affairs. In 1998, passed part-time the degree of Master of Business Administration at Bradford University, UK. Since July 2008, Head of Central Administration of German National Library, therefore i. e. responsible for legal advice and public policy, i. e. copyright issues. 7 THE ROLE OF COPYRIGHT IN THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF THE CULTURAL HERITAGE SECTOR

Anne Bergman Director Federation of European Publishers

For the last several years, Anne has worked to support the European publishing community through her role as Director of the Federation of European Publishers. She actively participated in discussions throughout the adoption of the Copyright in the Digital Single Market Directive representing the views of the book industry. Anne is a medieval historian by training coupled with a legal degree in issues pertaining to IP law. She unsurprisingly loves reading, but also going to art shows and exhibitions, watching ballets, movies or listening to concerts.

Ariadna Matas Policy Advisor Europeana Foundation

Ariadna contributes to the management and development of Europeana’s policies and frameworks with a strong focus on copyright, and supports the implementation of them throughout the Europeana Network. Ariadna studied law in , in and in France and has a Master's in Intellectual Property Law. Before joining Europeana, Ariadna worked for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) on copyright matters.

Katharina Anton Legal officer Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection

Katharina Anton is a legal officer at the Copyright Unit of the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. She was responsible for one of the previous reforms of the German Copyright Act which introduced new exceptions and limitations for teaching, scientific research and cultural heritage institutions. As an interim stage, she served as a legal officer in the Federal Ministry for Education and Science where she was working on funds for the digitisation of schools. She studied law in Germany and Norway.

Juozas Markauskas President Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council

Juozas Markauskas is the president of Baltic Audiovisual Archival Council (BAAC), member of Digitization Board at Lithuanian Ministry of Culture. He works as a consultant and project manager and has experience in developing and implementing national and international cultural heritage projects and strategies related to digitization, digital preservation and access. His main areas of interest are rights labelling and re-use of digital content; usability and accessibility of heritage services in a digital environment.

Anke Schierholz Director legal VG Bild-Kunst

Anke studies law and gained her PhD in copyright in Munich before she practised four years as a copyright lawyer in Berlin. Since 1999 she is director legal of VG Bild-Kunst, the German CMO for visual works. Sher regularly publishes on copyright and CMOs and is active in several international organisations. “CMOs are the natural partners for cultural heritage institutions: they offer unbureaucratic licenses as a one-stop-shop for the world repertoire and help to facilitate access to their members´s works whilst securing adequate remuneration for their members.” she says.

Fred Saunderson Rights and Information Manager National Library of Scotland

Fred Saunderson is Rights and Information Manager at the National Library of Scotland, where he leads on copyright, data protection, and records management. Fred chairs the UK Libraries and Archives Copyright Alliance (LACA) and is a member of the Europeana Copyright Community Steering Group, the UK Archives and Records Association Legislation and Standards Working Group, and the Copyright Evidence editorial board at the University of Glasgow’s CREATe centre.

Evelin Heidel is a longtime contributor of Creative Commons. Her main work has been around digital cultural heritage, the public domain, and copyright. Fellow at the Harvard Library Innovation Lab (2018) and International Visiting Scholar at the American University (2019). Currently is working on the Open GLAM initiative for CC.
