Jazz, Vivint Gives Back Host Autism Awareness Night Jazz Forward Joe Ingles and Family to Help Raise Funds and Awareness

SALT LAKE CITY (March 25, 2019) – The and Vivint Gives Back, Vivint Smart Home’s charitable foundation, will host Autism Awareness Night during the Jazz vs. Lakers game on Wednesday, March 27, at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Jazz forward Joe Ingles, his wife Renae and their two-year-old son Jacob, who was recently diagnosed with autism, will use the platform of Autism Awareness Night to help educate families about early detection.

“When we looked into it, we realized there was a lack of understanding about early detection and how much that can make an impact in a child’s life,” said Joe Ingles. “The earlier you find out, the more you can set your child up to have the best life they can have. Jacob’s brought so much joy and light to our lives, and it’s our hope to share that with families who may be going through the same process now.”

Fans can donate to a fund that provides specialized therapy, sensory spaces and inclusive community programs for individuals with autism in any of the following ways at the game on March 27: • Text JAZZDONATE to 44-321 • Purchase Vivint Smart Home’s item of the night, a special Autism Awareness T-shirt (pictured), at the Utah Jazz Team Store • Purchase a special blue cookie designed by Chip Cookies for Autism Awareness Month, which will launch on March 27 and will be available in-arena and at all Chip locations

In addition, Vivint Smart Home will donate $5,000 for every Ingles hands out in the Jazz game against the Lakers, up to $25,000. Vivint Gives Back, the Utah Jazz and the Ingles family are committed to donating $1.2 million in support of autism awareness in 2019.

Prior to tipoff, 22 youth with autism will stand with members of the Jazz and Lakers during the National Anthem.

During the third quarter break, a moment of celebration will take place for all families in attendance that have been touched by autism. Larry H. Miller Group of Companies owner and chairman Gail Miller, Utah Jazz President Steve Starks, Renae Ingles, Vivint Smart Home President Alex Dunn and Vivint Smart Home CEO Todd Pedersen will help lead the recognition.

Every fan in attendance will receive a blue rally towel with “Let’s Talk about Autism” inscribed on the front. Fans are encouraged to wave the rally towel during the third quarter moment of celebration. They can also share pictures and posts from the evening on social media with the hashtags #LetsTalkAboutAutism and #AutismAwareness.

Last season, the Jazz and Vivint Smart Home unveiled a sensory room on Level 5 at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The space is built for children with autism spectrum disorder and other intellectual and developmental disabilities to provide a safe haven for youth with conditions related to neurodiversity. The room is open for Jazz games as well as other events hosted at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

This season, the NBA will again support autism awareness efforts throughout the month of April. On April 2, worldwide iconic buildings and landmarks will “Light It Up Blue” in a unique global initiative for World Autism Day.

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences. One in 54 youth in Utah are diagnosed with autism, while an estimated one in 68 children in the United States is on the autism spectrum.
