Ben Gauntlett commenced his term as Disability Discrimination Commissioner at the Australian Human

Rights Commission on May 7, 2019.

As Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Ben has presented to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Geneva, presented at the United Nations Conference of State Parties in New York and was a witness before the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. Ben is a quadriplegic following a schoolboy rugby union accident aged 16 in Perth, . He has the experience of a person living with a disability and accessing care in Australia (Western Australia, , and the Australian Capital Territory), the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Prior to being appointed as Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Ben worked as a barrister in Western Australia and Victoria with a broad ranging practice. He has also worked as an associate to the Honourable Justice Kenneth Hayne AC at the High Court of Australia, as Counsel Assisting the Solicitor-General of the Commonwealth and taught law in Australia and the United Kingdom.

Fiona started her career in consumer advocacy as a voluntary financial counsellor at Caxton Legal Centre in Brisbane, and in 1990 helped set up the Financial Counsellors Association of .

She has now been involved with the consumer movement for over 30 years, including a number of years on the executive of the Consumers’ Federation of Australia. She’s a former board member of Energex Retail, the Insurance Ombudsman Service and the Financial Ombudsman Service, and a former chair of ASIC’s Consumer Advisory Panel.

She joined FCA as CEO in mid-2009, is a member of the boards of Way Forward Debt Solutions, consumer advocacy group, Choice and the Queensland Competition Authority. Gavin McCosker Deputy Chief Executive, Australian Financial Security Authority

Gavin McCosker joined the Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) in 2009 and until January 2016, was Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Gavin oversaw corporate support teams including Finance, People and Capability, Information and Communications Technology Services, Client Services and national administration and governance functions.

Gavin was appointed as the PPS Registrar on 31 October 2014 and was responsible for the operations of the Personal Property Securities regime and was the senior executive responsible for defining our approach to the development of organisational strategy. Paul Shaw National Manager Regulation & Enforcement, Australian Financial Security Authority

Paul Shaw is the National Manager, Regulation and Enforcement at the Australian Financial Security Authority, responsible for discharging the regulatory and review responsibilities of the Inspector-General in Bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy Act. The enforcement function is responsible for investigating all alleged offences under the Bankruptcy Act and preparing briefs for prosecution. Paul has been in that position since 2013.

Prior to joining AFSA Paul worked for over 20 years at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, where he was in senior management and oversaw commercial prosecution matters in NSW including those referred by ITSA (AFSA) and ASIC, which included the HIH prosecutions. Robert started with recoveriescorp 14 years ago and previous to that was a jockey. Since joining the company as a collections officer, he has progressed to his current role of People Lead. During his time at recoveriescorp, Robert has led teams in banking, utilities and government and was fortunate enough to guide two teams to win the AICM Credit Team of the Year Award. Tony has been in credit management for most of his working life, primarily in the building, construction and engineering sectors, Credit Manager with OneSteel’s distribution businesses in WA and also VIC/TAS, Group Credit Manager at Coates Hire, Regional Credit Manager at Stramit Building Products, Group Credit Manager /Associate at Aurecon Australasia and presently is the National Credit Manager with electrical wholesaler Rexel Holdings Australia.

His passion is in leading credit teams through transformation journey’s and his vast experience in this sector has given him great insight into the make-up of the customers that service it. Relevant to today’s theme, he has been faced with dealing with customer insolvencies and will have a credit manager’s perspective on dealing with this day to day.
