Engagement Wedding Bells Stephanie Andrew McGuire McCall, proposed to daughter of Natalie Wagner Andrew and on Christmas Elizabeth and night with granddaughter all parents, of John and Shannon, her Pam Richardson, sister and my married sister present in fellow Stoney front of our tree Laker Jeff on Puffer’s Bay. McFarland, son of Bob and Barb in Toronto on September 28, 2019. Love conquers All During a time in human history where sadness and negativity easily thrive, these two young people found a way to make love the answer. Though sometimes we may forget Luca and Samantha have proven that love is (and always will be) the most powerful force in the world. On April 20th the couple (who was suppose to have been married on a tropical beach) had their wedding - a very small ceremony - in the family home. When asked why, they said that a world wide pandemic is nothing compared to the power of love. With special thanks to Councillor Shelagh Landsmann, Mayor Gail Latchford and all the staff at Alnwick/Haldimand Township office and Luca and all those who supported us - not just for their help, but for showing Samantha us that indeed - Love conquers all. Thank you, love you all! Greco

President’s Message To My Fellow Members:

Normally this time of year brings thoughts of warmer weather and the hopes for a pleasant and memorable cottage season ahead. Sadly this Spring we have been plagued with an unwelcome visitor, that of Covid-19.

As most of you saw in our special email message earlier this month, your Board of Directors took the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Annual Meeting that would normally have been held on Saturday, June 27th, 2020, as well as postponing/cancelling indefinitely a number of other events including the fireworks, annual craft sale and family dance. We also took the difficult decision to not go ahead with the opening of our pavilion until further notice. These decisions were taken keeping in mind the Provincial Orders, that are currently in place that forbid gatherings of any kind involving more than 5. As a result our entire summer season as an association remains in limbo as I write this message to you.

So what will our action plan be? First of all we want to keep our members informed as best and as quickly as possible. The best way that we can do this is through our website - usla.ca Please check in often for updates. We will also communicate through our blast email server for any matter that may require the more immediate attention of our members. From a matter of procedure, we will have to convene an Annual Meeting at some point, but what that will look like or at what date it will be held, at this point, is still very much unclear. I wish I had better news to impart to you, but for now all that I can say is that our USLA summer programs are “on hold” until further notice. I would ask for members’ patience, as we are all in this together, and as we try to navigate our way to better days ahead.

On the financial front, your Board of Directors finalized the decision over the winter to raise our annual family dues to $100 per year, as well as adjusting other categories of membership accordingly. This was in line with the discussion held at last year’s Annual Meeting which highlighted that we had not had an increase in dues for many years and that the new fee structure was in order to keep up with annual expenses that continue to rise at the rate of inflation. I want to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful membership for your continued support of our association.

As your President it has been my honour to serve you this year and I ask for your support and patience as we attempt to salvage something of a season in the wake of this horrible pandemic. We will strive to keep you informed as quickly as possible of any change in planning and we hope to emerge from this crisis as a better and stronger association. For now, I pray that you and your families remain safe and I look forward to reconnecting with you all in sunnier days ahead.

Best Wishes,

Julian 6 The Bulletin ~ Spring / Summer 2020

Summer is coming to Stoney Lake - sort of!!! Summer may be arriving soon, however with the pandemic being experienced throughout the world, it will prove to be a summer like many have never experienced. There are a number of restrictions in place throughout the province. Please let’s all adher to the recommendations from the experts and do our part to fight this virus. If we all comply and respect the rules of the self-distancing and handwashing, we will all be able to say proudly that we played a part in helping to stop it. Only then will we be able to stand back and say, “We helped make things improve”.

Environment Director’s Report: Sustainability - Less is More Hello Folks! No surprise that our lake eco systems (including fish and wildlife) have not really noticed the human absence these last few months and that is a positive situation for the environment in general.
