LANSING, Mich. - Former USA Gymnastics team doctor , 54, has been sentenced to prison for up to 175 years for the sexual abuse of patients.

After a 7 day hearing, over 150 victims came forward to testify against Nassar, many of which were Olympic gymnasts and minors at the time of the abuse. Olympic gold medalists , , and McKayla Maroney were among the group of accusers.

Before the sentencing, Nassar was given a chance to address the court, which he took as an opportunity to apologize, "Your words these past several days have had a significant effect on myself and have shaken me to my core. I will carry your words with me for the rest of my days." Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie Aquilina responded to his apology by reading a letter Nassar wrote regarding the case. In the letter, Nassar claimed he was manipulated into pleading guilty and that accusers were making up claims for fame and money.

"I just signed your death warrant," Judge Aquilina told Nassar during the sentencing. "You've done nothing to deserve to walk outside of a prison again."

Nassar pleaded guilty to sexually abusing seven girls in Nov. 2017 after already being sentenced to 60 years in prison for child pornography.

On top of the conviction, dozens of victims have filed a lawsuit against Nassar, the USA Gymnastics, and Michigan State--Nassar's place of work.
