This evening, the University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics honors its best and brightest, from the fields and courts of athletic competition, and from the classrooms and laboratories of the campus. SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARDS The Scholar-Athlete Awards are presented to the male and female student-athletes with the top grade-point averages in the sophomore, junior and senior classes.
OUTSTANDING TEAM SCHOLASTIC AWARDS The Team Scholastic Awards are presented to the men’s and women’s teams with the highest aggregate grade-point averages. BIG TEN MEDALS OF HONOR The Conference’s oldest and most prestigious award, the Big Ten Medal of Honor, has been given annually since 1914 to a male student in the graduating class of each university that has demonstrated proficiency in both scholarship and athletics. In 1982, the Medal of Honor was expanded to include a senior female from each institution.
