[email protected] For Immediate Release: August 1, 2007 SIX TABBED FOR USA JUNIOR CAMP BU, BC and UNH will be represented at Lake Placid Six young players with ties to Hockey East programs, including four from Boston University, will arrive in Lake Placid, N.Y., this Friday (Aug. 3) for the 2007 USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp.

The six are part of an elite group of 45 of the top players in the under the age of 20 auditioning for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will take part in the 2008 International Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2007-Jan. 5, 2008, in Pardubice and Liberec, .

Boston University leads the Hockey East connection with four players: sophomore forward Luke Popko (Skillman, NJ), sophomore defenseman Brian Strait (Waltham, MA), incoming freshman forward Colin Wilson (Greenwich, CT), and incoming freshman defenseman (New Rochelle, NY). BU’s cross-town rival, , also has a player competing: sophomore forward Ben Smith (Avon, CT). Also attending will be the University of New Hampshire’s highly touted freshman forward James vanRiemsdyk (Middletown, NJ), who was the second overall selection in the recent NHL Entry Draft, selected by the . VanRiemsdyk is also one of six members from the U.S. National Junior Team at the camp that captured the bronze medal at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship

The camp will feature practices and eight international scrimmages. The 45 American players will be split into two teams, Team White and Team Blue (rosters attached), and will compete against Under-20 teams from Swe- den and . The two U.S. teams will face off against each other twice, Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, before taking on Finland and Sweden Aug. 7-11.

All practice sessions are open to the public and tickets for the international games are available through the Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid (518-523-1655/www.orda.org).

The Hockey East Association is a 10-team, Division-I college hockey conference, with offices based in Wake- field, MA. Founded in 1983, the league has won four NCAA championships in the past 14 years, and has placed a team in the finals of the Frozen Four each of the past two years. The league also sponsors an eight-team women’s league which began play in 2002-03.
