If there’s empty spaces in your heart They’ll make you think it’s wrong Like having empty spaces Means you can never be strong But I’ve learnt that all these spaces Means there’s room enough to grow And the people that once filled them Were always meant to be let go And all these empty spaces Create a strange sort of pull That attract so many people You wouldn’t meet if they were full So if you’re made of empty spaces Don’t ever think it’s wrong Because maybe they’re just empty Until the right person comes along

Ruby Run 2015 On Sunday 14th June 5 boys from Shebbear took part in the 13th annual Ruby Run which is a 13 mile road race from Hatherleigh to Holsworthy. The boys entered as a relay team sponsored by Lamisell. Practical Maths They all ran superbly and came in as the first team finishing the race On Tuesday nobody felt like doing sums, so some Maths lessons in 1 hour 21 minutes, which was a magnificent time. took on a practical slant and took place on the all-weather pitch. Form 3 reinforced their knowledge of Loci by making human lines to represent angle bisectors, perpendicular bisectors and loci of lines and points. Jed Foster was happy to re-enact the predictable tethered goat problem, with Rosie Kivell as the goat’s owner! Form 1 practised their ability to order decimals and fractions and used inequality signs to do this. Claire Cardoo

The conquering heroes were Patrick Faulkner, Alessandro Aliberti, Stuart Williams, Will Blee and Jack Joslin and they were joined also by Stuart’s friend Kieran. Special mention must also be made of Joe Faulkner who was too young to officially be part of the team but who ran along much of the route with the boys. The team spirit and effort shown by all the boys was really inspiring. A massive well done to them all.

The afternoon was finished off very nicely with a roast lunch in Iddesleigh for all the participating families very generously offered by Sid Lew, Patrick and Joe’s grandfather. I was proud to be part of such a special event. Judith Aliberti Issue No 75 19th June 2015

Inter-School Wakeboard Competition Shebbear was very well represented with 11 riders in the inaugural North Devon Wakepark Schools Competition on Tuesday 16th June.

Across a 3-tiered competition with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, the Shebbear students competed against pupils from other schools including Braunton, Kingsley, Marsland, Park and Pilton.

It was thrilling to win both the Silver and Gold categories. Despite the Silver category being well contested, Shebbear’s Eddie Hill won Gold, with Will Cunningham in 2nd place and Patrick Faulkner in 3rd. In the Gold category Joe Faulkner won the Bronze award, and Shebbear’s star rider and team captain Buddy Wahl back-flipped his way to the Gold medal, with the judges impressed with his consistency. All individual riders were given a bag of O’Neill kit to use while wake-boarding. It was an excellent team effort and that was rewarded by Shebbear picking up the trophy for the best team. Biology Fieldwork Well done all. The A2 Biology course resumes with the Sixth Form students taking advantage of the lesser used areas of the College campus to design Shebbear team: Joe Faulkner, Patrick Faulkner, Casper Griffin, Eddie HIll, Callum Hendry, Stanley Hill, Parker Griffin, Marton Busa, and carry out fieldwork studies.
