Paul has said the music was inspired by Bach’s “Bourree in E Minor,” which he learned to play at a young age. The tapping sound on the recording is not a metronome. The percussion-like sound keeping the beat is actually Paul tapping his foot on the studio floor, which was separately miked onto one of the tracks.

  • The Vox Continental
Review: The Vox Continental ANDY BURTON · FEB 12, 2018 Reimagining a Sixties Icon The original Vox Continental, rst introduced by British manufacturer Jennings Musical Industries in 1962, is a classic “combo organ”. This sleek, transistor-based portable electric organ is deeply rooted in pop-music history, used by many of the biggest rock bands of the ’60’s and beyond. Two of the most prominent artists of the era to use a Continental as a main feature of their sound were the Doors (for example, on their classic 1967 breakthrough hit “Light My Fire”) and the Animals (“House Of The Rising Sun”). John Lennon famously played one live with the Beatles at the biggest-ever rock show to date, at New York’s Shea Stadium in 1965. The Continental was bright orange-red with reverse-color keys, which made it stand out visually, especially on television (which had recently transitioned from black-and-white to color). The sleek design, as much as the sound, made it the most popular combo organ of its time, rivaled only by the Farsa Compact series. The sound, generated by 12 transistor-based oscillators with octave-divider circuits, was thin and bright - piercing even. And decidedly low-delity and egalitarian. The classier, more lush-sounding and expensive Hammond B-3 / Leslie speaker combination eectively required a road crew to move around, ensuring that only acts with a big touring budget could aord to carry one. By contrast, the Continental and its combo- organ rivals were something any keyboard player in any band, famous or not, could use onstage.

The Racialization of Jimi Hendrix Abstract The period of history immediately following World War Two was a time of intense social change. The nde of colonialism, the internal struggles of newly emerging independent nations in Africa, social and political changes across Europe, armed conflict in Southeast Asia, and the civil rights movement in America were just a few. Although many of the above conflicts have been in the making for quite some time, they seemed to unite to form a socio-political cultural revolution known as the 60s, the effects of which continues to this day. The 1960s asw a particularly intense time for race relations in the United States. Long before it officially became a republic, in matters of race, white America collectively had trouble reconciling what it practiced versus what it preached. Nowhere is this racial contradiction more apparent than in the case of Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix is emblematic of the racial ideal and the racial contradictions of the 1960s.

  • US Apple LP Releases
Apple by the Numbers U.S. album releases From the collection of Andre Gardner of NY, NY SWBO‐101 The Beatles The Beatles Released: 22 Nov. 1968 (nicknamed "The White Album") In stark contrast to the cover to Sgt. Pepper's LHCB, the cover to this two record set was plain white, with writing only on the spine and in the upper right hand corner of the back cover (indicating that the album was in stereo). This was the first Beatles US album release which was not available in mono. The mono mix, available in the UK, Australia, and several other countries, sounds quite different from the stereo mix. The album title was embossed on the front cover. Inserts included a poster and four glossy pictures (one of each Beatle). The pictures were smaller in size than those issued with the UK album. A tissue paper separator was placed between the pictures and the record. Finally, as in every EMI country, the albums were numbered. In the USA, approximately 3,200,000 copies of the album were numbered. These albums were numbered at the different Capitol factories, and there are differences in the precise nature of the stamping used on the covers. Allegedly, twelve copies with east‐coast covers were made that number "A 0000001". PLAYLIST AUG. 19TH 2012 HOUR 1 The Beatles - All Together Now - Yellow Submarine Recorded 12th May 1967 A big favorite at British football games in the late 60’s early 70’s McCartney 1.00 The Beatles - The Word - Rubber Soul (Lennon-McCartney) Lead vocal: John Recorded in three takes at a late night session starting on November 10, 1965 that ran until 4 a.m. the next morning. Overdubs include Paul on piano, George Martin on harmonium, and Ringo playing the maracas. The song is a full collaboration between Lennon and McCartney, and began as an attempt to write a song based around a single note. On U.S. album: Rubber Soul - Capitol LP The Beatles - Love Me Do – Please Please Me (McCartney-Lennon) Lead vocal: John and Paul The Beatles’ first single release for EMI’s Parlophone label. Released October 5, 1962, it reached #17 on the British charts. Principally written by Paul McCartney in 1958 and 1959. Recorded with three different drummers: Pete Best (June 6, 1962, EMI audition), Ringo Starr (September 4, 1962), and Andy White (September 11, 1962 with Ringo playing tambourine). The 45 rpm single lists the songwriters as Lennon-McCartney. One of several Beatles songs Paul McCartney owns with Yoko Ono. Starting with the songs recorded for their debut album on February 11, 1963, Lennon and McCartney’s output was attached to their Northern Songs publishing company. Because their first single was released before John and Paul had contracted with a music publisher, EMI assigned it to their own, a company called Ardmore and Beechwood, which took the two songs “Love Me Do” and “P.S.

  • Apple Label Discography
Apple Label Discography 100-800 series (Capitol numbering series) Apple Records was formed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in 1968. The Apple label was intended as a vehicle for the Beatles, their individual recordings and the talent they discovered. A great deal of what appeared on Apple was pretty self indulgent and experimental but they did discover a few good singers and groups. James Taylor recorded his first album on the label. Doris Troy recorded a good soul album and there are 2 albums by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. The Beatlesque group Badfinger also issued several albums on the label, the best of which was “Straight Up”. Apple Records fell apart in management chaos in 1974 and 1975 and a bitter split between the Beatles over the management of the company. Once the lawyers got involved everybody was suing everybody else over the collapse. The parody of the Beatles rise and the disintegration of Apple is captured hilariously in the satire “All You Need Is Cash: the story of the Rutles”. The Apple label on side 1 is black with a picture of a green apple on it, black printing. The label on side 2 is a picture of ½ an apple. From November 1968 until early 1970 at the bottom of the label was “MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES INC. USA”. From Early 1970 to late 1974, at the bottom of the label is “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS” From late 1974 through 1975, there was a notation under the “MFD.
