COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS PLACE CENTER ALEXANDER WENNBERG ON INJURED RESERVE, RECALL CENTER RYAN MacINNIS FROM AHL’S CLEVELAND MONSTERS

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The have placed center Alexander Wennberg on Injured Reserve and recalled center Ryan MacInnis from the Cleveland Monsters, the club’s affiliate, Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Wennberg, 25, suffered an upper body injury on Sunday at Montreal and is expected to miss three-to-four weeks. He has registered five goals and 15 assists for 20 points with 16 penalty minutes and an “even” plus/minus rating in 52 contests with the Blue Jackets this season. He skated in his 400th career NHL game on January 6 at Anaheim.

The Stockholm, Sweden native has posted 40-159-199, 85 penalty minutes and is +10 in 410 career NHL outings with the Blue Jackets and collected a career-high 13-46-59, 22 penalty minutes and was +9 in 80 contests in 2016-17. The 6-2, 197-pound center was Columbus’ first round pick, 14th overall, at the 2013 NHL Draft.

MacInnis, 23, has posted 0-1-1 and was +1 with 11 shots on in seven contests with the Blue Jackets in 2019-20. He made his NHL debut on December 21 vs. New Jersey and collected his first career assist two games later on December 27 at Washington. The 6-4, 200-pound center has added 6-16-22, 20 penalty minutes and is +8 in 36 contests with the Monsters in 2019-20. He ranks second on Cleveland in plus/minus rating, third in assists and fourth in points.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, MacInnis has recorded 24-53-77 and 131 penalty minutes in 236 career AHL games with the Monsters, Tucson Roadrunners and since making his pro debut in 2015-16. He was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the second round, 43rd overall, at the 2014 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Blue Jackets via trade on July 18, 2018.
