Colin Turkington secured a win and a podium finish for Team RAC at the fifth round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park today (24 June).

In front of another bumper crowd and celebrity supporters, on a rainy day in Cheshire, Team RAC had a successful day with Colin Turkington securing another win and earning some valuable points for the team.

After races 13, 14 and 15, Colin Turkington lies fourth in the drivers championship with 93 points, whilst Tom Onslow-Cole is in 10th with 57 points. (Vauxhall) and (SEAT Sport UK) both lead with 149 points each.

Race oneTeam RAC driver Colin Turkington secured an independents win for Team RAC and got the fastest lap of the race.

Northern Irishman Colin Turkington started the first race of the day from pole position. In lap two he dropped to thirrd place after being passed by and Fabrizio Giovanardi. Turkington held off competition from reigning champion and got the fastest lap of the race in his BMW 320si. He finished the race in third place earning himself an indepdendents win.

Tom Onslow-Cole started 18th on the grid after coming off the track in yesterday's qualifying. A good start saw him move up to 13th in lap one and a strong performance meant he eventually finished the race in ninth place.

Colin Turkington said: "It was frustrating not to be able to convert the pole position start into a win but I was happy to get on the podium and get the fastest lap. I earned some valuable points and put myself in great position for race two."

Race twoCheered on by his celebrity grid girl Roxanne McKee, aka Louise from Hollyoaks, Colin Turkington secured his second win of the season for Team RAC.

Starting from third on the grid Colin Turkington made a great start to move straight into the lead. In a wet race that required two safety car periods following seperate accidents, including a four-car pile up at the first bend, Turkington took victory just 0.046s ahead of the Vectra of Giovanardi.

Team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole had a difficult race. In the first lap he went wide at Cascades and managed to miss the wall but rejoined the race at the back of the field. On the first restart he began well and moved up a few places but contact with upset the throttle body of the car and in the last lap the throttle cable slipped off. He finished the race in 13th place.

Colin Turkington said: "It was a very difficult race. We spent a lot of time under safety and I had to keep telling myself to keep concentration for when the safety car went in. It was very slippery and as the track started to dry there became less grip. I am delighted to get another win. It was probably my closest yet."

Race threeThe final race of the day at Oulton Park was disappointing for Team RAC. An early incident involving Matt Neal and Colin Turkington in lap one put Turkington out of the race. A frustrating end to what had been a positive day for the Irishman.

Starting from 13th place on the grid, Tom Onslow-Cole began well, moving into the sixth in the first lap. The safety car came out in lap one and on the restart he was passed by Gordon Shedden. Onslow-Cole fought back to recover his place but in lap 11 Shedden passed him again. In a difficult race Onslow-Cole performed well to finish in seventh place.

Dick Bennetts, WSR Team principal, added: "I am pleased with the performance of both drivers. I am delighted that Colin got another win with a fastest lap. The car is looking very strong and we are looking forward to Donington."

Team RAC now lead the independents team championship with 180 points, and sit fourth in the Overall Teams Championship with 140 points.

The BTCC action now moves to Donington on Sunday 15 July.

RAC were able to unveil the latest stage of their "RAC to the rescue" campaign, which provides benefits to enhance the race day experience of fans at all 10 rounds of the season.

RAC came to the rescue of motorsport fans by adding some glamour to the grid in the form of Hollyoaks star Roxanne McKee. The actress, who plays Louise Summers in the Chester-based drama, added a touch of glamour to the grid as Colin Turkington's grid girl. Alastair Pegg, director of RAC marketing, said: "It was a great day for Team RAC and fantastic to see Colin Turkington get another win. The fans certainly seemed to enjoy meeting Roxanne and her support for Colin was a boost.

"RAC's season sees a different activity for each round of the championship that rewards fans or adds to their race day experience and for Oulton Park we added some glamour to the grid with soap star Roxanne McKee. RAC is always looking to enhance the race day experience for supporters and I'm sure that the fans welcomed some celebrity support on the grid.

"RAC have many exciting initiatives planned for the 10 rounds in 2007 so supporters should log onto teamrac.co.uk, look out in the media and at the rounds themselves during the season for details of our activity and how they can take part."
