The Scout Service Center, 1401 Old Greenwood Road (formerly known as 1401 South 31st Street, was built in 1963. The State Legislature passed a Bill on March 1973, permitting the Westark Area Council to purchase 2,842 acres of Booneville Sanatorium land for future camp development. The drive to develop this land was begun in the fall of 1975 and completed in May 1976. Construction of the camp, now known as Rogers Scout Reservation, started in the spring of 1976.

LODGE HISTORY

Wachtschu Mawachpo Lodge 559, Lodge of the Mountain Treasure, began in 1963. The first Lodge Chapters were Butterfield, Northwest, Ozark, and Magazine Mountain. The first Lodge Chief was Don Ford of Fayetteville. The first Lay Adviser was Harry Martens, and the Professional Adviser was Bill Baird, both of Harrison. The chapters at this time were large for a young lodge. Butterfield Trail had 20 members with Barry Coplin of Fort Smith as Chapter Chief. Northwest had 36 members with Dick Ford as Chapter Chief. Ozark had 25 members and Marshall Smith was serving as Chapter Chief. And Magazine Mountain had 23 members with Don King serving as its Chapter Chief.

The first Ordeal was large for a young lodge. One hundred twenty± two new members were inducted. Magazine Mountain had 32 candidates, Northwest had 39, Ozark 33, and Butterfield Trail had 28. The ceremony was conducted by neighboring lodge Quapaw 160.

The lodge chose the white oak leaf as the lodge totem. The reason for this is largely because of the multitudes of white oak trees at Camp Orr and in the Ozark Mountains. The lodge name, Wachtschu Mawachpo, means Mountain Treasure. Westark Area Council's mountain treasure is Camp Orr. On each step of an Arrowman's journey, they are protected by the shade of the mighty white oak. A symbol of strength and longevity, the totem was wisely chosen.

The driving force behind the founding our lodge was Arthur Anderson. Arthur was a Vigil Honor member of Manu 133 prior to moving to Arkansas. He brought his passion to the Ozark Mountains and Camp Orr. Arthur along with Harry Martens, a Brotherhood member, founded our lodge. Harry was the first Lodge Adviser and received the Vigil Honor the year following our founding.

The Northwest Chapter changed its name to Uark, and then at a later date, changed it again to Razorback as it is presently known.

Over the years, the lodge has belonged to different regions and sections of the . When founded, it was part of Region Five, Section 5a. In 1973 the and the Order of the Arrow went from twelve regions to six regions. The lodge was placed in the South Central Region and in section SC-1a. In 1983 the section was renamed SC- 2. In 1988 the lodge was moved to SC-3. In 1993 again the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow merged regions from six to four. The lodge became a member of the new Southern Region and was assigned to section SR-3. In 1996 SR-3 was split and the lodge became a member of section SR-3b. In 2004, sections SR-3a and SR-3b were merged back into SR-3. In 2008 the region underwent a realignment and SR-3 was renamed SR-8 which is our current section assignment.

Over the years the lodge has had several Arrowmen serve as Section Officers. Here is a list of past Section Officers.

Tim Osborn - Section Chief Brian Naylor - Section Chief Neal Wise - Section Vice Chief Bryan West - Section Vice Chief, Section Chief Jeffery Squires - Section Secretary Calvin Kunkel - Section Vice Chief, Section Chief

With their election to the position of Section Chief, these Arrowmen had the opportunity to run for National office. The lodge has had two National Officers, they are:

Tim Osborn - South Central Region Chief Brian Naylor - South Central Region Chief
