Parker was 2nd team all‐Ohio finishing 25th, and Joel was 1st‐team all‐Ohio finishing 11th. Mr. Arndt presented both athletes with a commendation.

Pirate Wrestling Highlights

The P erkins Wrestling Team finished 2n d at the Perkins 58 Napoleon 18 Anthony Wayne Duals. In their matches, the Pirate Perkins 43 Liberty Center 31 grapplers finished with a 4­1 record with wins vs Elida, Perkins 67 Elida 7 Liberty Center, Napoleon, and #9 Perrysburg. P erkins Perkins 32 #9 Perrysburg 28 lost to Anthony Wayne in the Finals. Pacing the Perkins 15 Anthony Wayne 49 Pirates with perfect 5­0 records at the dual meet were Lucas Salmon a nd L ogan Schoen. Congratulations Wrestling Team!

The P erkins Wrestling Team has advanced to the O HSAA Regional Semi­finals w hich will be held on January 31st, 2018 at Perkins High School. To reach the semis, the Pirates defeated Keystone 56­18 and Norwalk 45­27. Semi­finals matches start with Perkins vs Sandusky and Napoleon vs #2 Wauseon. Twenty minutes are the first two sets of matches are over, the two winner go head to head.

Athletes Inducted into Hall of Fame The P erkins Alumni Association celebrated its alumni H all of Fame dinner Sunday January 14t h at Sawmill Creek. For the first time, the Perkins Alumni Association joined with P erkins Athletic Department to induct athletes as part of the association. J ay Crawford '83, former ESPN commentator and Perkins Alumni Hall inductee '13, served as the Keynote speaker for the event.

PERKINS HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2018 Curt Williams ‘69 Curt Williams was a standout out three sport athlete, participating in basketball, football and track. His talents allowed him to play at the University of West Florida and he was able to represent Team USA. In 1973, his team won the gold medal in Small Olympics­ South Africa.

Lori Schlessman ‘74 L ori Widdoes Schlessman was the first female to earn a varsity letter by playing on the boys varsity tennis team at a time before girls were able to have varsity sports in Ohio high schools. Her determination for gender equality in sports paved the way for future women athletes. Lori has continued to be a part of youth sports serving as a tennis coach and co­founder of Al’s Clinics.

DeMorris McDonald ‘84 D eMorris McDonald earned All­Ohio honors in football and was a state finalist in wrestling while at Perkins. He was able to continue his football career at Miami (Ohio) University where he was a four year letterman earning 1st team All Mid American Conference honors.

Scott Fry ‘85 S cott Fry was a U.S. National Cross country champion, two­time state cross country champion, two­time 1600m state champion, and 3200m state champion while in high school. He went on to earn Big 10 and NCAA All­American honors at the University of Wisconsin. Scott was able to qualify for the Olympic trials in 1988 and 1992 where he placed 8th and 12th.

Larry Sparks ‘89 L arry Sparks a leading member of both the cross country and track teams. In cross country he earned All­Ohio 1st team 3 times, two of which his team earned state titles. Larry’s success continued in track with 9 All­Ohio honors including being a 2 time state champion (‘87,’89) and runner­up title (‘88) in the 1600m. Following high school, Larry continued running at the University of Cincinnati.

Matt Smith ‘91 M att Smith lead Perkins in both cross country and track. Matt was a member of the 3 state champion and one state runner­ up teams from ‘87­’90. During that time he was also an individual state champion (‘90) and individual runner­up (‘89). In track he was named All­Ohio 4 times with a state championship in the 3200m. His college career led him to running at both the University of Cincinnati and University of North Carolina Chapel­Hill. Here he qualified for the NCAA National and the US Olympic trials in the 3000m steeplechase.

Damar Pentorn ‘00 D amar Pentorn excelled in both football and wrestling. As a wrestler, he earned 2 state titles, was named MVP of the Division II state wrestling tournament and named USA wrestling 1st team All American. Damar also received All­Ohio honors in football and was a member of the 1999 Division IV State Champion team.

Brandon Schnittker ‘01 Brandon Schnittker was a 2 time All­Ohio first team football player where he earned Defensive player of the year in 2000 and helped his team earn a Div. II State team title in 1999. A a true multisport athlete, he was a state champion in the discus and a state qualifier in wrestling. Following high school, Brandon continued to play football at The Ohio State University, earning 4 letters and helping his team to two Big 10 Championships and the 2002 National Championship.

Brian Bixler ‘01 B rian Bixler played both and basketball while at Perkins. In baseball he earned 2nd team All­Ohio honors and went on to continue his career at Eastern Michigan earning both MAC and All­American honors. After being drafted by the in 2004, he played professionally for 11 years with organizations such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, , , , , , and the San Diego Padres.

Kyle Hallock ‘07 K yle Hallock was a multisport athlete who earned All­Ohio honors in both basketball and baseball. Kyle then went on to Kent State to continue his baseball career and earned MAC honors including Conference Pitcher of the Year and All American 2nd team honors. Both the Philadelphia Phillies (‘10) and Houston Astros (‘11) drafted Hallock where he reached the AAA level in . Kyle is currently serving as the pitching coach at Malone University.

Cory Leslie ‘08 C ory was a multisport athlete who earned ten 1st Team All­Ohio honor in both Cross Country and Track. He was a State Champion in Cross Country 2007. He was also a State Champion in Track 2007 & 2008 (1600 2x’s, 800m, & 4 x 800 Relay). Cory then continued his career at The Ohio State University where in earned a Bachelors in Education and was 6 time All­American, 7 time All ­ Big Ten and 4 time Academic All ­ Big Ten. He is the Ohio State School record holder in the Indoor 800, Indoor Mile, Outdoor 4 x 800 and 4 x Mile. Cory then continued his running career as a Professional for Nike from 2012­2017. During the 2015 year Cory won the Bronze medal in the Pan­Am Games. Cory was also a member of USA World Cross Country team in 2017 and a 2 time Olympic Trials finalist. Cory is currently coaching at Arizona State University for Track and Field and Cross Country.

Cierra Bravard ‘08 C ierra Bravard led Perkins basketball by earning 1st team All­Ohio honors 3 times and named Division II Player of the year two years a row. Cierra continued her basketball career at Florida State University where she helped her team reach the “Elite 8” twice. Following college, she has gone on to play professionally for the past 7 years in both the United States and Europe; currently playing in France.

Matthew Hoty ‘10 M atthew Hoty was a two time state champion in the shot put (‘08 & ‘09), state runner­up in the shot and discus (‘10). In addition to these titles, he currently holds the state record for Division II shot put. Matt was a 2010 Indoor All American (Shot Put) and a 2010 Outdoor All American (Discus). Matthew continued his throwing career at the University of Tennessee where he served as a 2 time captain and reached the “UT Top 7” indoor and outdoor track & field list in the shot put. Matthew earned his degree at the University of Tennessee earning a BA Economics / MS Business Analytics. He currently works for Asurion in Tennessee.
