With more than 10 million visitors each year, Buenos Aires offers a range of accommodation options to suit every possible taste and interest. The leading international hotel chains are strategically located in the most popular districts for tourists. There is also a wide range of accommodation in the city and plenty of options for those who are looking for more affordable rates. The event organisers have secured agreements for participants at the V Co-operative Summit of the Americas with significant special rates at both the Hotel Panamericano Buenos Aires, where the event is held, as well as alternative hotels located very close to the venue for the various activities. In both cases, bookings must be made directly with the hotels, using the information given below. At both the venue hotel and the alternative hotels, there is limited capacity to host V Summit participants at the special rates and terms agreed and it is likely that these places will be filled several weeks ahead of the event. If necessary, new agreements will be made with other hotels close to the Summit venue, however we strongly suggest that you make your booking in advance in order to secure your place and avoid missing out on the discounts offered by the official hotels. VENUE HOTEL The activities on the agenda at the V Co-operative Summit of the Americas will be held at the Hotel Panamericano Buenos Aires, a five-star property in an unbeatable location on the city's iconic Avenida 9 de Julio, just 300 metres from the Obelisk. The hotel offers luxury accommodation and is particularly notable for its exclusive Club & Spa, a vantage point offering some of the best views of the city, as well as first-class restaurants and an exclusive wine cellar.

One of its biggest draws is Nivel 23, which offers spectacular views of the city, a heated pool, sauna and beauty salon.

There are a variety of dining options to enjoy at the hotel, too. La Luciérnaga, renowned as one of the best traditional restaurants in central Buenos Aires, treats diners to delicious lunches of hot and cold dishes and an exceptional dessert bar. Celtic Pub is an Irish pub with sophisticated décor, soft lighting, delicious drinks, a cigar club, pool and great music. For over 40 years, Tomo I has held its position as one of the best restaurants in Buenos Aires and even Argentina, with a menu and wine list and elegant, intimate setting that turn lunch or dinner into an unforgettable experience.

The spacious rooms of the Panamericano Buenos Aires are exclusively decorated with elegant, Italian-designed furniture and feature a desk, marble bathrooms with bath tub, an LED TV and minibar. All rooms have wooden floors and large windows, some with spectacular views over the city.

Requirements for entering Argentina As a general rule, foreign visitors do not require any special immigration paperwork and can enter Argentina with a valid passport. For nationals of MERCOSUR and Associate Member countries (Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru), a national identity card will be sufficient. An entry visa is only required for nationals of a few countries in the Americas: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Cuba, Dominica and Dominican Republic. You can find an updated list of all countries whose nationals require a visa on the website of the National Immigration Department: http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/indexA.php?visas. The maximum stay for tourists is 90 days.

Climate of Buenos Aires The of Argentina’s capital is mild and humid, with four clearly-defined seasons and rainfall occurring more or less evenly throughout the year. In the month of October, when the Summit takes place, the average temperature is 17.8ºC, ranging between a minimum of 13ºC and a maximum of 23ºC.

Language Spanish is the language spoken in Buenos Aires. People working in services frequently used by tourists are usually able to speak English and Portuguese.

Health Healthcare provision throughout the country is good. No vaccination certificates are required for entering the country, except for cholera and yellow fever for passengers from countries where these are endemic. Tap water is drinkable. Public hospitals are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and provide emergency care free of charge, including for tourists.

Currency and exchange The Argentine peso is the legal tender used in all types of commercial transactions. While the US dollar and euro are widely accepted in shops, exchange for local currency is made at banks and authorised currency exchanges. The most widely-accepted credit cards are American Express, VISA, Diners and Master Card. Travellers’ cheques are also widely accepted in Buenos Aires, but it may be less easy to use these in the rest of the country.

VAT refund for foreign tourists Refunds are given at the airport for the amount paid in VAT [Impuesto al Valor Agregado, IVA]. If you have purchased domestic products costing over $ 70 (per receipt) in stores belonging to the “Global Refund” scheme, it is possible to reclaim the amount paid in VAT at Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza). You can also receive a refund for VAT on accommodation, provided that this was paid using a credit card issued abroad or via a bank transfer from an account held outside Argentina. There is no need to do anything as the refund is made directly and automatically at the time of payment.

Safety Buenos Aires is a safe city, but like every other metropolis in the world, it is important to take precautions. For example, do not hang bags on the back of seats in public places or walk along poorly-lit streets at night. Opening hours In major cities, shops are open from 09.00 to 20.00 Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays from 09.00 to 13.00 - however, those located on major shopping streets will stay open all afternoon. In shopping centres, opening hours are from 10.00 to 22.00, including weekends and some holidays. Banks are open from 10.00 to 15.00 Monday to Friday, although some banks will stay open until 16.00 for certain operations. Cash machines can be used 24 hours a day to withdraw money and carry out other transactions. Office hours are usually from 09.00 to 18.00 with a lunch break of one hour (from 12.00 to 13.00 or 13.00 to 14.00).

Electricity Voltage in Argentina is usually 220 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Plugs and outlets are types I and C. If you wish to use a device without a voltage adapter, transformers can usually be found at affordable prices.

Telecommunications Telephone numbers in the City of Buenos Aires have eight digits. Local telephone calls do not require a prefix, except to mobile or cell phones (the prefix 15 is entered followed by the eight digits). For calls to the rest of the country, the prefix 0 is required, followed by the area code and the local number. For international calls, the prefix 00 is required, followed by the international telephone number. For those wishing to call the City of Buenos Aires from abroad, the prefix (+54 11) is required before the local number, if it is a landline number, or (+54 9 11) if it is a mobile or cell phone. If you would like to rent a mobile or cell phone for your stay in the city, you can purchase a prepaid SIM card from a kiosk or a call shop. Buenos Aires has more than 250 free wifi zones throughout the city, including on the metro and metrobus. The BA WiFi app allows users to find wifi zones from their smartphone.

Tipping For many of the services provided to tourists (mainly eating out), it is customary to leave a tip equivalent to 10% of the amount consumed, which is not always included in the bill. Tips are also given to porters and ushers at live events.
