Grizzlies Owner Robert Pera vs. Grizzlies guard Tony Allen

Winner gives $100,000 to St. Jude

Memphis, TN, September 26, 2013 – 92.9 FM ESPN will air the one-on-one exhibition game between Chairman and Controlling Owner Robert Pera and Grizzlies guard Tony Allen being held at FedExForum Saturday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. The voice of the Memphis Grizzlies and 92.9 FM ESPN local sports talk host Eric Hasseltine will call the game and Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph will officiate.

Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera challenged veteran guard Tony Allen in a game of one-on-one, with $100,000 on the line. And it all started with a tweet. “Hey Grindfather,” Pera tweeted. “How about we play 1:1 in Memphis before training camp start? (sic) I’ll spot you a couple baskets to make it a game!”

Pera offered $100,000 to the charity of Allen’s choice.

Allen accepted -- and the team announced Thursday morning that the “Battle of the Bluff” will take place Saturday afternoon, September 28 at the Grizzlies’ practice facility in downtown Memphis. The winner will donate $100,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

92.9 FM ESPN will broadcast the game on 92.9 FM and simulcast on 680 AM. Eric Hasseltine, the radio voice of the Grizzlies and host of the Eric Hasseltine Show on 92.9 FM ESPN, will provide commentary with fellow 92.9 FM host Chris Vernon doing color analysis. The event is closed to the public, but 75 guests will attend by winning entry in an on-air contest on 92.9 FM ESPN.

Pera became controlling owner of the Grizzlies in October 2012 at age 34, making him the youngest owner in the NBA. Pera, a tech entrepreneur who founded networking company Ubiquiti Networks, told Forbes magazine he plays pickup a couple times a week.

Allen, starting shooting guard for the Grizzlies, was named NBA First Team All-Defense for the 2012- 2013 season. In 2012 he was awarded the title of Best Perimeter Defender by the league’s general managers.
