THE SUN has been shining on the Tradewise International Chess Festival today.

Early on players from China including GMs Li Chao and Yu Yangyi made it to the very Top of the .

After a heavy downpour last night the morning brought the sun out. It was Gibraltar like on a summers day and everyone took advantage of this. In the Upper Rock Nature Reserve our chess players also came face to face with the famous Gibraltar Barbary Macaque and obviously made a few friends. The Nature Reserve is a protected area and where you will find some of Gibraltar’s most important historical sites such as St Michael’s Cave, Great Siege Tunnels, City Under Siege Exhibition, Moorish , Apes Den, Mediterranean Steps, World War II Tunnels and the old Jewish Cemetery.

The Gibraltar apes come into contact with humans on a daily basis. They are a tailless monkey called a Barbary Macaque (Macaca Sylvanus).
