Sixth Sunday of the Year B

This is the Year of St Joseph.

Pope Francis has dedicated 2021 to St Joseph. Here is a prayer we can say everyday:

Holy Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; In you Mary placed her trust; With you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father And guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, And defend us from every evil. Amen

Act of Spiritual Communion. To be said by those who cannot physically attend Mass.

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to separated from you. Amen

Say “Hello” Next week we welcome Fr Pius Amoako to our Pastoral Area. Of course, Fr Pius was here before, Assistant Priest in three years ago. Fr Pius returns as Parish Priest of St Paul’s, St Thomas More and Most Holy Name of Jesus in Thrapston, Raunds and Oundle. This brings to an end of the “alliance” we have operated between the five churches over the last three years. Canon Michael will remain as Parish Priest of the parishes of Our Lady’s and St John Ogilvie’s, effectively reverting to the arrangement which existed before Fr Gregory came to the Pastoral Area upon the retirement of Fr Brian Leatherland. Canon Michael remains as Dean of the Pastoral Area which is soon to welcome back the parishes of and . Fr Pius can be contacted via email:[email protected]

Wave “Goodbye” Today we say “goodbye” to Olly Patton, our seminarian who has been on placement with us since September. In the Autumn Olly will go to St Mary’s College, Oscott, , for six years of study, prayer and discernment. We wish him well. Should you wish to give Olly a parting gift, there is a retiring collection today.

“Thank You” To Fr Robert and Fr Gregory who supplied in St Paul’s and St John Ogilvie’s respectively over the last month.

First Holy Communions 2021 Congratulations to Zusanna and Daisy who are to receive Jesus for the first time in the Eucharist at today’s 10:00 Mass. If you can, please make a socially-distanced fuss of them. For the second year running, we are unable to have a “First Holy Communion Day” in the customary style. Instead up to four children will receive their First Holy Communion during Sunday Mass, beginning today.

Funerals. The news is that the 30 limit of mourners is probably being increased from 17th May. However, please be aware that we are still restricted by the capacity limits that apply at weekends. Guests at Weddings and Baptisms in hopefully go up from 15 to 30 on the 17th May.

Wedding Couples. It is “all change” as the traditional green registers are being returned to the Register Office. Please note that your “blue forms” have been replaced by a “schedule” which you must obtain from the Register Office ahead of your wedding.

Thrapston Sunday Mornings. From next week Masses revert back to: 9.30am and 11am (not 11.30am)

Confirmation Enrolment Congratulations to all those who ‘tuned in’ for the Enrolment Service yesterday. You now know what to do next, basically to email Secretary Maggie to express your desire to be enrolled onto the Confirmation Programme. All children must enrol, including all those in Our Lady’s School, Year 6, who have been receiving catechesis all year. Those not at Our Lady’s School will, by return of your email, receive instruction about your online catechesis which starts immediately. Bishop David will Confirm our youngsters on the 28th September in Our Lady’s Church.

Ascension Day Is This Thursday This story so far: Originally a Holy Day of Obligation, then “no”, as it was transferred to the nearest Sunday, then “yes” as it was reinstated on the Thursday. This year is a tantalising twist of the two: we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord on the Thursday (see Mass times below) but the Obligation applies not, owing to the Pandemic. In summary: If you are able to get to Mass, you should do so, to celebrate this big day in our Church calendar, if not, watch our Mass online via churchservices.tv and make an Act of Spiritual Communion.

This is great news. Not only does the club provide good social contact for parishioners and others, by via rental of the property provides the parish with a regular income. Our thanks to Bernard, Bridie and staff who have been on furlough. They will be pulling pints once again!
