Average daytime temperatures range from 30⁰C in summer to 16⁰C in winter, the number of rainy days each month rarely exceeds 5 and indeed even in winter you can expect at least 6 hours of sunshine each day. This makes it an it ideal location all year round for practising outdoor sports. Salt Torrevieja lies between the sea and two large salt lakes, Las Salinas, and salt production is a major industry in the area, second only to tourism. The two lakes are distinct in colour, one blue-green, the larger pink. The pink hue is caused by pigments (Beta-Carotene) of the Halobacterium bacteria which lives in environments with a high concentration of salt (including the Great Salt Lake and the Dead Sea), and also by an algae, Dunadiella Salina, responsible for the bright red colour at certain times of the year. Flamingoes feeding on the red Artemia Salina brine shrimp also sport a particularly bright pink plumage. 700,000 tonnes of salt per annum and produced in Torrevieja, much of it exported to other European destinations and beyond. A visit to the highly- rated Museo del Mar y de la Sal (Museum of Sea and Salt) near the Port of Torrevieja is well worth a visit to learn more about the salt production, but also to see some intricate artefacts made of salt and board the floating museum of the Delfin S-61 submarine. Tourism Torrevieja is a lively city with a number of beaches, the longest and most popular being Playa del Cura, also the nearest to the city centre. Restaurants line the beaches, with fish found in abundance on the local menu. Most visitors to Torrevieja are drawn by its beaches and excellent climate. Initially it was a popular destination for Madrileños (residents of Madrid), but has since also become a firm favourite with visitors from northern Europe, served by Alicante and Murcia airports. It is a very safe place to visit. Torrevieja has much to offer. Sporting venues are in abundance, and visitors also enjoy horseriding, cycling and walking through the Parque Natural de Torrevieja (3,700 hectares) which includes the two salt lakes. Also in the park, in addition to the 2,000 or so flamingos, keen ornithologists will see ospreys, black-necked grebes and grey herons wintering here, and breeding species include black-necked stilts, Montagu’s harriers, little terns, gull-billed terns, Audouin’s gulls and slender-billed gulls, the last two of which are endangered species. Also in the park you will see toads, geckos, snakes, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs, weasels and foxes. Sample hotel: Hotel Playas de Torrevieja Located 100m from the sea and 250m from Playa de la Mata, Hotel Playas de Torrevieja is also just 5km from the centre of Torrevieja. All rooms at the hotel are furnished with balconies offering fantastic views of the outdoor pool and the Mediterranean sea. Rooms have free wifi, tvs, en-suite bathrooms and living room. The restaurant offers Spanish cuisine but also caters for the British palate. Daily programme of events All meals will be taken at the hotel unless requested otherwise. Groups will head off to their sporting venue after breakfast and again after lunch and take part in the tailormade programme of activities in the agreed itinerary. Schools can have just one focus to their trip, for example football, in which case activities will be mainly centred around football training and match competition with some cross-training such as Padel as a structured but entertaining alternative. Howerer schools may prefer to bring teams representing more than one sport. The variety of possibilities is your choice, and we will work with you and our partners to ensure that all aspects of your trip are right for your groups. The trips can encompass as many days as you wish. To date, spatial analysis on peer-to-peer rental activity has been usually limited in scope to individual large cities. In this study, we take into account the whole territory of Spain, with special attention given to cities and regions with high tourist activity. We use a dataset of about 250 thousand Airbnb listings in Spain obtained from the Airbnb webpage, aggregate the numbers of these offers in 8124 municipalities and 79 tourist areas/sites, measure their concentration, spatial autocorrelation, and develop regression models to find the determinants of Airbnb rentals’ distribution. We conclude that apart from largest cities, Airbnb is active in holiday destinations of Spain, where it often serves as an intermediary for the rental of second or investment homes and apartments.

  • Spanish Hotel Market Resort Destinations
es.christie.com Spanish Hotel Market Resort Destinations This report analyses the main Spanish coastal resort destinations in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, including Balearic Islands and Canary Islands, highlighting the development of their main hotel performance indicators in 2018. Benefiting from the instability of Mediterranean competitors (Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt), the Spanish resort markets have experienced robust recovery with record numbers in demand, supply and profitability. Consequently, during the last years these markets have turned out as one of the main drivers of tourism growth in the country and, for two consecutive years, have seen a concentration of the majority of hotel investment volume in Spain. Due to qualitative improvements in hotel supply, as well as the opening of new hotels focused on the luxury segment, hotel rates have increased, driving hotel performance consolidation in a more competitive environment. However, the recovery of the Mediterranean competitor destinations and the decrease in UK demand (the main international feeder market) due to Brexit, in addition to the effects of climate change, might affect future demand levels. Throughout this report we analyse the economic, tourism and hotel framework of each resort destination, using public information sources that include: Exceltur, the National Statistics Institute (INE), AENA (Spanish Airports and Air Navigation), Ministerio de Fomento de España, and Alimarket, as well as Christie & Co’s sources. Due to qualitative improvements in hotel supply, as well as the opening of new hotels focused on the luxury segment, hotel rates have increased, driving hotel performance consolidation in a more competitive environment 2 | Christie & Co KEY OBSERVATIONS DEMAND CONSOLIDATION While international demand decreased mainly due to the recovery of Mediterranean competitor markets, the domestic segment consolidated, stabilising overall tourism demand EXCELLENT AIR ACCESSIBILITY There are 22 airports serving Spanish resort markets representing c.

COSTA NEWS, October 30-November 5, 2015 Page 57 Anglo Spanish Association visits Segovia, Salamanca and Ciudad Rodrigo October 4 saw 29 members of the Anglo Spanish Associ- ation led by Chairman, David Decker depart on a once in a lifetime trip to Segovia, Salamanca and Ciudad Ro- drigo Members had an opportunity to explore Segovia, the cathedral and the Roman Aqueduct before setting off for Salamanca, via Avila, stopping at a mirador outside of Avila to take photos of the magnificent battlements which completely surround the old city. As a result of this many of our members decided that on a free day in Salamanca, they would travel by train to Avila to ex- plore it further. Salamanca is a city founded in pre-Roman times, but first developed by the Romans in the first century BC. The name 'golden city' is a reference to the stone which almost every building is built from, having the same golden colour which you find in buildings in Bath They stayed at the Parador in Salamanca with many of the rooms offering spectacular uninterrupted views over the old city. The next day the guide starting at the Plaza Mayor, walked them all through the 'golden city' with the group gleaning many interesting facts about the buildings and sites. Lunch was at the delightful Res- taurant Le Sablon in the centre of the city, new small museum in the city walls, and enjoyed a talk encamped, and moved off to be attacked in the flank by They then visited the twin cathedrals, the Monastery by the curator on the history of the town and shown a the British and Portuguese Armies.
