SWa RTHMORE Svjarthmore eked out a 2-0 victory over Dickinson, Saturday, in a close, hard fought ball game. The contest featured a punting duel between Buckley of D'sor. and Jewett of Swarthmore. Both averaged almost 40 yards on their kicks. Nei ther team mounted a threat until the 2nd quarter when the Red Devils drove from their own 38 to the Quaker 15 yard line. There, Larry Snyder missed the 1st of his two field goal attempts. Swarthmore then moved to the Dickinson 26 yard line before Dan Shaver ended the drive with an interception. Late in the 3rd quarter the Quakers went from their own 3 yard line to the Devils' 21. Tom Phillips stopped a touchdown by knocking down a pass in the end zone to finish off the threat. The only score of the game came late in the 4th quar ter when Wayne Rickert was tackled in the end zone to give Swarthmore a safety Dickinson made a last ditch attempt to win in the last minute of play, as they marched to the Swarthmore 12 yard line. Then, with six seconds left, Larry Snyder's second field goal attempt was wide to the left to give the Garnets the victory. Under a warm October sun, The Red Devils of Dickinson burned their way through the Franklin and Marshall Diplomats to bring home a 35-0 victory. Breaking a school record for punt returns, Bill Penny ran back the first F&M punt 89yds. to score the Devil's first T.D. In the opening seconds of the second quarter Wayne Rickert plunged over from the one foot line to bring the score to 13-0. Again in the closing seconds of the first half, D'son's lightening offense struck on a pass from Harry Harris to Dallas Winslow, who swivel-hipped for another score. The second half saw Dickinson go wild, with Bill Penny retur*- ning another F&M punt 60 yards for a score. In the final period the Devils tallied once more when John Ritchie went around the left end.
