GOOD FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS April 2, 2021, 11:00 A.M. (Drive In) & 7:00 P.M. (Live-stream)

We welcome you to the Stations of the Cross. This Good Friday tradition began in Medieval times as a structure for meditation and prayer in remembering the final events of Jesus. It is also called “Via Cruces” (the way of the cross) or “Via Dolorosa” (the way of sorrow). Today, if you visit Jerusalem, these special Stations of the Cross are visible for pilgrims to walk the road that Jesus walked. Open your hearts and minds and follow Christ.

Items to BRING from HOME for the 11am service: this bulletin, LBW (green Lutheran Book of Worship hymnal)

We gather in silence to prepare for worship.

1

P: In the name of the + Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen

P: On this day we gather to remember Jesus our Savior, who loves us and gave himself for us. Let us draw near in full assurance of God’s endless love and mercy. C: We give our thanks and praise to Jesus Christ who carries our sorrows, heals our wounds, and redeems us from sin and death.

OPENING PRAYER P: Then Jesus told his disciples, If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. (Matthew 16:24-25) Let us pray. C: Almighty God, your Son our Savior suffered at the hands of sinful humanity and endured the shame and agony of the cross. Grant that in true devotion we may enter with joy upon the contemplation of those mighty acts whereby we are redeemed and set free. May God be gra- cious to us and bless us, and make his face shine upon us. Amen.
