Athletics NSW redeveloped its website (www.nswathletics.org.au) in late 2010 with the aim to communicate a clearer and more professional message to members and the general community. David Tarbotton and Ron Bendall have continued to write regular articles, profiles and reviews, which has improved the coverage and content on the website, as well as providing greater recognition for athletes, officials and administrators. The eATHLETE email service continued to be distributed to all members on a weekly basis, upon providing their email addresses during registration. An ANSW facebook page was also launched towards the end of 2010 and various events have been broadcast to the wider community via YouTube.

Club Development

The importance of quality assurance and growth of our clubs is one of the key issues identified in the strategic plan of Athletics NSW in the coming years. In response to this, two groups were assembled in late 2009: the Clubs on Track Review Panel and the Clubs Best Practice Working Group.

Over the course of 2009-10, the Clubs on Track review panel assessed the evaluation process, to ensure relevance and validity of questions asked, current scoring, and reducing the workload for club officials by providing specific data to save administrators’ time. A pilot template was sent to chosen clubs in early 2011 and feedback was positive.Clubs on Track will recommence in 2011, with the evaluation report being issued to all clubs in September each year.

The Clubs Best Practice working group met on four occasions over 2009-10 to discuss ways in which ANSW could assist clubs to grow and make best practice initiatives part of the daily running of their club.

The potential contents of a Best Practice Toolkit were explored by the group by examining other sporting code resources, previously compiled evaluation reports on our sport, and through face-to-face consultation with ANSW clubs which had rated highly in the Clubs on Track review process, including all Gold level clubs.
