Colour Granite of Sri. S. N Manohar Sy. No. 269, Bidupalli Village, Puttaparthi Mandal, , Andhra Pradesh

Brief Summary Sri. S N Manohar is a private Lessee having past 5 years experience in granite business and vast experience in quarry. The proposed Colour Granite mine is located in Sy. No. 269 of Bidupalli Village, Puttaparthi Mandal, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh over an area of 3.00 Hectares. The Asst. Director of Mines & Geology; vide Notice No. 266/Q2/CG/2008 dated 18-02- 2010 asked the applicant to submit Mining plan. The Director of Mines & Geology; Hyderabad vide Notice No. 6984/R4-1

The mining lease area of 3.00 Hectares opencast manual mining is followed and it has been proposed to produce approximately 2160 Cu. m/ Annum of Colour Granite. The nearest habitation, Bidupalli is located at a distance of 2.40 km due NW from lease area. About total 51 workers are going to be engaged for at least 300 days in a year for loading Colour granite in to trucks / tractors/ tippers. The mining lease area falls in Survey of India Topo sheet No. 57 F/16. Sri Sathya Sai Railway Station is about 6.79 km due NW. Sri Sathya Sai Airport is about 5.81 km due N from lease area. Seaport is about 293.65 km due SE from lease area.

The Geo Co-ordinates of the mine lease are: S. No. Latitude Longitude 1. 14° 06' 24.12"N 77° 47' 24.02"E 2. 14° 06' 23.00"N 77° 47' 24.00"E 3. 14° 06' 24.42"N 77° 47' 25.29"E 4. 14° 06' 22.93"N 77° 47' 25.20"E

The lease area is a plain terrain. The area is devoid of any forest or tree cover. It comprises shrubs only. The presence of reptiles and other minor wild life’s rabbits, field rats etc., no major wild life exists in this area . There are two pits, one on the South-Eastern side and another on North West side of the Q.L. area. The total production of so far mining from beginning of quarry is 243 Cu. m and 972 Cu. m of waste material generated. It is proposed to dig three trial pits to a size of 3 m x 3 m x 3 m on Southern, Northern sides and middle of the area as there is over burden and weathered granite. This exploration pits will be taken up after the quarry lease grant. The trail pits are useful to evaluate the quality and depth occurrence of marketable Cherry Brown granite. Initially, the total quantity of mineable reserves is considered as (economic) marketable reserves. In this way a mineable reserves of 41107 Cu. m are available in this Q.L area. The production is proposed to obtain 2160 Cu. m per year. Life of mine is 21 years.

Water is required only for drinking purposes and dust suppression. The number of working people is around 51. So the total water requirement will be around 7.5 KLD. Source of water is tankers and bore wells. In this type of extraction the recovery factor is as medium as 20 % so only 80% comes out as waste. This waste shall be stacked in the dump yard to reuse for reclamation purpose. Waste will be shocked over a length of 50 m, width 15 m to a height of 6 m, in the South Western corner of the area. During the next five years about 41427 Cu. m of waste material will be generated.

The project is located in 3.00 Hectares of Government Land. There will be change in land use as the Colour granite mine will be excavated. An extent of about 2400 Sq. m area will be sliced down during 1

Colour Granite of Sri. S. N Manohar Sy. No. 269, Bidupalli Village, Puttaparthi Mandal, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh next five years to a depth of 8 m.

Every year about 50 m length of buffer zone will be planted along the boundary on Northern, South East and Western side area. About 33 saplings consisting of Neem, Teak will be planted per year over an area of 50 m x 6m at 3 m grid interval Year wise plantation area is shown in Plat No.IV.

An extent of about 2400 Sq. m area will be sliced down during next five years to a depth of 8 m. The proposal for reclamation of land affected by mining activity will be done at the end of mining lease. No reclamation is proposed in the first five years period because, the mining will be continued to further depths and reclamation will be possible only after completion of mining up to the proposed depths. Reclamation and rehabilitation of the lands affected by mining will be done by back filling, soil amelioration and afforestation. This will be taken up on need basis before the conclusion of mining operations. The back filling of the mine starts from the eastern end proceeds towards northern side. Drainage will be developed along the slopes of the hill. Reclamation of the affected land includes back filling, drainage development, spreading and fertilization of soil, leveling and re-vegetation etc. Care will be taken to implement the said factors.

Sri. S. N. Manohar have allocated budget of 6.39 Lakhs (Capital Cost) and 2.32 Lakhs (Recurring Cost) for the environmental protection measures. The project involves collection of Colour Granite. Although granite is a minor mineral, it is a major contributor in foreign exchange earnings. India is the second largest exporter of raw granite after China and ahead of Brazil and South Africa. This project will also provide employment to local people helping them earn livelihood.
