Listen LIVE online or join us in person, at the University School of Theology Join in a conversation that explores one faith tradition within the larger context of military ministry overall. The and the Boston University School of Theology will bring together people who educate and train chaplains, who are currently studying to enter military ministry, and who have served in the profession.

For Christian Scientists—as for all denominations—chaplaincy requires a capacity to respond to the spiritual and emotional needs of individuals from all faith perspectives, drawing on the foundation of one’s own beliefs.

Panelists include: Dr. Shelly Rambo, Assistant Professor at the Boston University School of Theology. Rambo was instrumental in designing Boston University School of Theology’s Master of Divinity track in Chaplaincy. She also serves as a faculty leader in Boston University’s Religion and Conflict Transformation program.

Janet Horton, one of the first women ever to serve as a military chaplain in the United States Armed Forces. In 2011 the Boston Janet Horton, one of the first women ever to serve as a military chaplain in the United States Armed Forces. In 2011 the Boston University School of Theology honored Col. Horton (retired) as a distinguished alumna, noting that “with remarkable quality, [she] embodied the essence of the mission of the School of Theology within the boundaries of the U.S. Military.” Horton currently serves as the Christian Science Military Endorser for those entering the chaplaincy.

Sarah Sampas, a third-year Master of Theological Studies student at the Boston University School of Theology. Sampas is on the verge of completing her theology studies in order to begin a career as a Christian Science military chaplain. She is also embracing another new role as mother of Oliver, born last November.

Brian Bort, a third-year Master of Theological Studies student at the Boston University School of Theology, is likewise preparing to begin a career as a Christian Science Military Chaplain. Bort earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in poetry from Mills College in 2009.
