How do you feel your 2019 draft compares to your 2018 draft? Ask a winemaker in the Barossa Valley if this year’s vintage is going to be good and they’ll tell you “fantastic, but not as good as next year”. We have sold 96 winners out of this sale under the Cornerstone Stud banner since 2012 and I think this crop will add handsomely to that tally.

What type of yearling do you feel suits this sale? There is always a solid demand from colts at this sale, especially from those keen to trade. As a result, in our experience, the fillies in Adelaide are often incredibly good value.

Which lots are your stand out colts? Lot 162, the Magnus - Taransay is a lovely colt. As is the Unencumbered - Lovemelikearock, who is Lot 47. We also have a very nice line up of Valentia’s first crop of yearlings. The Valentia - Miss Blevitone will be Lot 329: Zebedee - Generous Tristana filly MAGIC MILLIONS popular. He is Lot 62. So, too, will the the colt out of Curve, who is Lot 281. Of the Free Eagle colts, the colt out of Enthrall will make his way onto is Lot 11, and Lot 453, the Good Journey - Boat Quay filly. The sire is no the lists of plenty of good judges. He is Lot 308. longer sexy, but when you can throw the likes of Happy Trails it does not matter. Which lots are your stand out fillies? Generous Tristana has been a very good mare and her Zebedee filly is a Which lot do you feel has improved most since the beginning of beauty. She is Lot 329. The Valentia - Smokin’ Al filly is a smokey in Book 2. the prep? She is Lot 416. The Free Eagle - Arubeel is also a quality filly. She is Lot 226. Lot 15, the Free Eagle - Kaimana colt is the big improver. I think the best buys will be the Good Journey - Joyful Glow filly, who How do you think the sale statistics will compare to the 2018 renewal? It is more of a buyer’s market in 2019. If we can be on par with 2018 that would be a very good result.

Who do you think will be the leading sire at the sale? Credit must go to Adrian Hancock and his team as the variety of sires in this sale is excellent. We are hoping Valentia will be up there with Nicconi and Magnus.

Of the first season sires, which have impressed you and what do you like about their progeny? We are very excited about Valentia. He was a $1.35 million yearling and his stock have grown into lovely yearlings. We have also been impressed with Headwater’s foals and yearlings. They look strong and precocious Lot 162: Magnus - Taransay colt MAGIC MILLIONS and one of our best foals on the farm is a Headwater.

How do you feel your 2019 draft compares to your 2018 draft? It a draft with a similar feel to last year. We will have yearlings that will suit a vast range of buyers.

What type of yearling do you feel suits this sale? The sale is the same as all sales on the Australian circuit. The lots which have appeal on type and pedigree will be sought by all buyers. Where Adelaide really stands out are the yearlings that suit the breeze-up markets with buyers looking for that genuine racehorse.

Which lots are your stand out colts? Lot 116, the Rebel Raider brother to Group 3 winner Pretty Punk is a very progressive colt. He is yearling that will be showing his best as a three-year-old. Lot 166, a colt by Dissident, whose grand-dam is Il Quello Veloce, will be appealing to all buyers. He is a strong, well-built colt and yearlings by Dissident have been selling well this year, showing trainers a Lot 374: Toronado - Marmelo colt MAGIC Millions lot of early promise.

Which lots are your stand out fillies? Lot 262, a Street Boss filly, is a yearling with great strength, power Lot 161, a filly by Kermadec, is a yearling with a lot of quality and and muscle definition. She is from Champagne Jane, who is a half-sister lovely loose walk. She is from the family of Group 1 winners Nicconi and to the super fast Guard Of Honour. Zip Zip Array. Which lot do you feel has improved most since the beginning of the prep? This has to be Lot 374, a colt by Toronado in Book 2. He has really surprised us with his rapid development over the last few months and he has been our biggest improver for this sale. I imagine he will outsell his Book 2 placement, which will be thoroughly deserved.

Who do you think will be the leading sire at the sale? Akeed Mofeed is producing some promising types on the track. It would not surprise me to see them sell well.

Of the first season sires, which have impressed you and what do you like about their progeny? Kermadec and Valentia have both impressed me with the types they are producing. Both are getting types with quality and Lot 116: Rebel Raider - Reliability colt MAGIC MILLIONS presence.
