The Waste Act came into effect on 01 July 2009 and was subsequently amended in 2014 and it contains certain requirements/provisions that must be fulfilled by provinces in line with the Provincial integrated waste management plan (PIWMP). In line with section 13 (1) of the Waste Act, provinces need to submit annual performance reports on implementation of the Provincial IWMPs to the MEC for approval and to the Minister for endorsement.
