Program Description: Nearly everyone (80%) will be affected by back pain at some point in their life time. Each year, Americans spend an estimated $50 billion on remedies for low back pain and it is one of the most common reasons for missed work. The purpose of this workshop is to provide therapists and yoga teachers with a basic understanding of Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) and how yoga-based interventions may be incorporated into a client’s existing treatment plan while providing emphasis to Yin Yoga as an effective modality to treat CLBP. Current evidence-based research shows yoga-based interventions to be an effective way to relieve CLBP -- and with no side effects! By the end of this workshop, participants will have gained the practical skills to create effective Yin Yoga based therapy routines applicable to people living with CLBP.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn techniques designed to relieve tension in the body and mind. Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

• Discuss the basic facts and information about CLBP • Explain the difference between the approaches to Yoga • Relate the benefits of gently stressing and stimulating the joints, connective tissue and fascia • Demonstrate and apply Yin Yoga-based approaches for relieving CLBP • Develop safe, effective and specific Yin Yoga routines for people experiencing CLBP • Take and pass at 75% exam to receive certificate
