in 4 The Week • Wednesday 4th July 2018 Kingswood Question mark over shopping centre redevelopment Kings Chase Shopping Centre, where plans for a major redevelopment were approved at the end of last year, has been put on the market. Steamrock Capital took over the management of the outdated centre in 2016 and, after holding public consultations on proposals to improve it, secured permission from South Gloucestershire Council to demolish the eyesore multi-storey car park and replace it with a three-storey extension providing up to 30,700sq ft of commercial space. The proposals include a mixture of retail, gym or leisure space alongside space for new restaurants and cafes plus a new car park with more than 300 spaces. There are currently 265 spaces. The redevelopment scheme was widely welcomed as a boost for the town centre but no work has started and now it is up for sale. It is understood that there are some interested buyers. The centre is anchored by Sainsbury’s and Wilko, and has other high street names including Boots, Holland & Barrett, Halifax and WHSmith, as well some independent stores. The Week In has asked Steamrock why the centre is for sale, having secured planning permission to improve it, but had not received a response before we Kings Chase Shopping Centre went to print.
