The Foundling Hospital Handel’s assosiation with “The Hospital for the Maintenance and Education of Exposed and Deserted Young Children” began when he undertook to arrange a money-raising concert in May 1949 for the completion of the Chapel for this Hospital. When the concert took place, the Chapel still lacked most of its furnishing and was even without glass in the windows. The next year Handel presented the Chapel with an organ and gave a performance of “”. Handel’s support was a very grateful financial assistance for this hospital. The first concert of “The Foundling Hospital” was attended by the Prince of Wales and his family, 100 performers and an audience of a thousand. (Decca Record Company Limitid, )

The Opening Aria “Blessed are they that concider the poor” was performed by a tenor. I transposed and arranged it for the Alto Trombone and as “Continuo” I chose the organ even if Handel couldn’t use it with the first performance in the chapel (see above).
