He remained active in bowling and writing, thanks to his many friends and fans. The last time I saw him, we argued about the upcoming membership merger, and what our all-new it might mean to bowling. and what is could mean to bowling, as usual, we disagreed! I admired Frank's support of the game through the years as he traveled at home and abroad to cover news of events and bowlers. A Rebuttal to Jim Goodwin’s “The Clash Was Interesting But...” Column in the 5-15-08 Bowling News

While not perfect, we did get to see a lot of bowlers and any bowling on TV is a good thing. Ed Smith Hawthorne CA

Mr. Smith,

Thanks for reading my ‘tribute to Steff.’ Is “any” bowling on TV really a “good thing?”

I seem to recall a silly college tv show that Randy Petersen did that resulted in several injuries to players - and the kids did more dancing than bowling. Is turkey bowling on the TV news, or pumpkin bowling good for the image of the sport? It sounds like you subscribe to the belief that “as long as they spell my name right, it’s all good.” . . .But I contend that there is such a thing as negative publicity. Did you know that USBC paid CBS $400,000 to buy the time for these two shows, and that more than a million dollars was spent in total? Is this how USBC should be spending membership money? A million would be a pretty good down payment on a new women’s tour, among other things. Actually, I enjoyed the shows too, but I’m disappointed that the format was not thought out. You can put all the window dress- ing you want on it, but it won’t change a flawed format which resulted in unessessarily embarrassing two of the sport’s greatest players. Again, thanks for reading Ed - and for supporting bowling.

PBA Video Game to be Unveiled SEATTLE—Concrete Software®, Inc., a leader in innovative mobile content, announced today that it has signed a worldwide agreement with the PBA to produce and distribute a mobile bowling game under the PBA brand. PBA Bowling™ will be released in June 2008 worldwide just in time for the PBA Team Shootout Hosted by Six Flags Great America which will be aired on ESPN.

PBA Bowling will be built with cutting edge technology in- cluding 3D graphics and mobile motion technology (the option to use real motion with the mobile handset to roll the bowling ball). Motion technology utilizes your mobile device’s camera to detect movements and emulates a real throw, similar to the Wii remote. The game will also include 11 of the top PBA bowl- ers including today’s top stars like Norm Duke, Pete Weber and Tommy Jones.

“We are very pleased to be teaming up with Concrete Software to produce the first PBA video game of its kind,” PBA Commis- sioner and CEO Fred Schreyer said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase not only the game of bowling and the PBA but to also have some of the superstars of the PBA featured so that fans across the world can put themselves on the lanes with Pete Weber, Sean Rash and others.”

“Bowling games have always done well in the mobile market which makes it very exciting to be working with the premier brand in bowling” said Keith Pichelman, CEO of Concrete Software. “It’s exciting to be able to combine our knowledge of building games and the PBA’s long history of bowling.”

The PBA Team Shootout Hosted by Six Flags Great America takes place June 5-8 at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ill., and will air on ESPN throughout the summer. The event features 18 PBA Tour stars competing in a team event for a top prize of $100,000. Del Rosa Lanes 1499 E.
