I. Rationale and Purpose

IFI-TFER OperationSambayanihan is organized to respond to the urgent relief needs of calamity victims. It serves as the Church's emergency relief arm to serve as conduit between donors and calamity victims. It links with partner and concordat Churches, individuals, and organizations local and abroad in order to facilitate relief donations and assistance, and at the same time link with local churches, relief organizations, and local government units in resource generation and delivery of services.

There is actually a larger number of families needing relief assistance than reflected in the list. A single parish would normally appeal for 500 families and above but limited resources constrain the relief mission to select the poorest among the families needing food supply.

The complete list from South and Central Luzon, as gathered from reports at the local churches, counts to more than 8,000 families that request support. A few local churches have already undertaken initiatives to address the need in their respective communities.
