ISC, Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) update on temporary relocation of individuals to urban centres to access ongoing medical treatment:

NIHB has been working with the regional Medical Health Officer, internal partners, the Saskatchewan Health Authority and various provincial ministries, to ensure that appropriate supports are in place for vulnerable individuals who have temporarily relocated to urban centres to access ongoing medical treatment. This is primarily diabetic and cancer patients, as well as prenatal clients in confinement prior to birth. The majority of these individuals are temporarily relocated to Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

In an effort to reduce the risk to these individuals that might be posed by other guests staying in the hotel, as well as ensure that other supports such as wellness checks and access to elders can be put in place, NIHB has finalized a strategy that includes housing all vulnerable clients in a designated facility, which limits access to other members of the public. NIHB has reached agreements with the Ramada Inn in Prince Albert, and the Heritage Inn in Saskatoon. Fire and environmental health inspections will be completed in each facility this week.

Clients staying in these facilities will also be provided with information on how to access other supports, including mental health counselling, elder services, wellness checks, and recreation supports.

NIHB has also finalized arrangements with designated taxi companies in each city who have put enhanced infection prevention controls in place in their vehicles, and these companies will be providing all in-city transportation for the vulnerable clients to get to and from their appointments within Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

NIHB has been reaching out to coordinators and health directors in communities to arrange to have the vulnerable individuals relocated to these facilities early next week.
