AUSTRALIAN ART WORKS ON PAPER ONLINE-ONLY AUCTION 24 SEPTEMBER – 8 OCTOBER

Featuring iconic Australian Artists: Nolan, Boyd & Blackman

Christie’s Online-Only – Christie’s is pleased to announce the first online-only auction of | Works on Paper, which opens for bidding at 3:00pm GMT (London) 24 September 2013/ 12:00am AEST () Wednesday, 25 September. The sale showcases a wide selection of drawings and prints by some of the most notable 20th century Australian artists including Sidney Nolan, , Robert Dickerson and Charles Blackman. Offering 40 works, the sale will run online for two weeks, with prices ranging from £600 to £8,000. This auction provides the opportunity for first time buyers to acquire works by major Australian artists at accessible prices. The sale is led by a group of Nolan drawings from the 1950s through to the 1960s, which include classic subjects such as his drought studies, depictions of the iconic (Seven studies including Ned Kelly and Greek Warrior fragments (estimate: £3,000-5,000, illustrated below centre), and landscapes (Central Australian Landscape (Uluru) (estimate: £4,000-6,000, illustrated below right) and Trees (estimate: £4,000 - 6,000, illustrated below left)). A selection of Blackman drawings provide a remarkable insight into the artist’s friendship with writer and poet Al Alvarez in London (estimates range from £1,000 up to £7,000).

Further highlights from the sale include a large offering of printed works, including Dust, a suite of 24 etchings by Sidney Nolan (estimate: £2,500-3,500, illustrated second page right); and by Arthur Boyd, Narcissus, a series of 25 etchings (estimate: £6,000-8,000, illustrated second page left), and Bundanon Quartet a set of four lithographs (estimate: £1,500-2,500, illustrated second page centre).
