The Ivorian was arguably the Blues’ stand-out “We are disappointed and we are not happy at all performer at Wembley with a mixture of power with the result on Sunday. We felt we deserved and creativity that also provided a goal assist the win... but we were surprised at how Arsenal and came close to scoring what could have been played because we’ve not seen them play like a winning goal – but for the merest fl ick of Petr that before. When moments like that happen, there’s not a smile on the faces of everyone at City. A win much you can do because that’s how football would also strengthen the Blues’ bid to secure sometimes goes.

OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME 9 OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME “When you look back at the highlights, you see that a number of important decisions didn’t go our way but we have to forget it – it’s over – and now concentrate on United. It’s going to be difficult for me to forget the FA Cup semi-final but I must accept it and move on.”

With United edging ever closer following a 2-0 “We have to treat win at Burnley on Sunday, City received an this game against unexpected boost with the news that Liverpool had been beaten at home to Crystal Palace, United as a final. It’s severely damaging the Merseysiders’ hopes of a massive game for Champions League football next term. For Yaya, however, it was a warning shot across the bows us and one we can’t proving that games against teams near the foot of the table are just as dangerous as the ones afford to lose” against clubs near the top.

“Liverpool losing was a bit of a surprise and obviously a good result for us, but we must be careful as there is still a lot of hard work to be done. We have to win as many games as we can, focus on what we need to do and try to make sure we get the job done as there are a lot of strange results at this time of the season.

“We have to treat this game against United as a final. It’s a massive game for us and one we can’t afford to lose. Two big managers, two huge clubs and 22 big players, so it’s going to be a battle – and we want to make sure we end in the top three and qualify for the Champions League. It will be difficult and it’s going to be very tight at the top, but it is in our own hands and we are determined to do it.

“Arsenal will have confidence after beating us at the weekend and always seem to finish strongly. Liverpool are still in it despite losing to Palace. And United are on a long unbeaten run and so difficult to beat this season... So there is still a long way to go and anything can happen with anyone capable of beating anyone.

“Jose Mourinho will try and figure out how to stop us playing our best football. He knows

11 the Premier League well, he’s a good manager, United midfielder, . A couple of years and clever. People will say we will be tired after back, the Frenchman said: “There are lots of playing extra-time at Wembley, but it’s just like midfielders I admire and watching them helps anyone who works – sometimes you finish late me improve. That’s what me but more experience. We have more or less we have to do and we will do it and we’ll be fine the same playing style, even if he’s a bit more and ready to go.” attacking than me.”

One of the most intriguing battles this evening Yaya smiled at the mention of Pogba and will be between Yaya and a player who admits admitted he tried to convince him to join him at he has looked up to Yaya for many years – City at one stage.

“Liverpool losing was a bit of a surprise and obviously a good result for us, but we must be careful as there is still a lot of hard work to be done”

“It’s going to be tough to be against him because he’s a great player, but he’s also going to be up against Fernandinho who can take anyone on. That will be a great battle and I think it will be a fantastic game. We just need to make sure we win. Fernandinho’s going to enjoy it, I’m sure Pogba will be up for it, and I’m going to enjoy it, too.”

One player who might not make the cut is , who limped off at Wembley injured. Yaya says if the Blues win, they will dedicate the victory to their Spanish team-mate.

“We hope David Silva will be fit for the game but it isn’t easy to recover so quickly with just a few days in between games. He’s a great player and if he doesn’t play he will be missed, for sure, but City are a great club with great players so somebody will be ready to step in. He was sad after coming off so early so if he doesn’t play against United, we must try and win it for him.

“One player who can really make a difference for us in games like this is . In terms of experience, he’s a guy who understands everything. The little details can make the difference and Kompany has always been positive for this club.

“We know it’s been difficult with his injuries, but he’s such a strong guy. I think he’s looking good and that he’s going to continue this way to try and help the club achieve our goals and if he plays against United, he will be ready and determined to lift everyone and help us get the result we need.”

I was saddened, as so many others were, to hear of the death of Ugo Ehiogu last week. I didn’t know him personally but I saw him play many times for Aston Villa and he was a great servant of the game. As disappointed as we all were on Sunday, it’s things like this that put everything into perspective. This is a someone who was just 44, who was highly respected in football for his ability as a player and a coach, but most importantly as a man. 19 SEQUENCES & LINKS THIS ISSUE: GARY JAMES ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CITY AND UNITED...

Whenever derby day comes around, people think Financial support of the rivalry between the Blues and the Reds, By the early 1900s, City (reformed as MCFC in often focusing on the negative aspects. Further success In 1909, United won the FA Cup for the fi rst time and the Blues director Albert Alexander senior provided the carriages for the Reds’ homecoming. United had asked him to lead the procession carrying the players and the cup. The idea was that the success, with Turnbull and Meredith starring, was a continuation of City’s 1904 FA Cup glory and the Reds and the Blues wanted all of Manchester to celebrate together.

I’d like to end with an extract from a letter that was written by a 79-year-old City fan in 1957, which remains relevant today: I have always regarded it as a highlight of the year to watch two fine teams from the same city in action… Sometimes City are on top of the world, sometimes United. Which is just as it should be. Nobody with the interests of the game at heart could honestly wish for one side to win everything all the time. I’d just like to say “all the best” to both teams for the future, and I hope the name Manchester will long remain at the top of the football world.
