Since 1984, the Benevolent Fund has worked to meet the needs of UAB employees and our community by offering a unique blend of employee charitable giving opportunities. What began as an effort to consolidate abundant charitable giving efforts across campus has evolved into a multifaceted organization governed by an elected council representing employees from all academic programs, administrative divisions, and UAB Medicine.

GetA COMMUTESMARTGreen PROGRAM Get Green is a one time program that offers commuters $1 per day for everyday an alternatie commute is taken in the frist 90-daysof participating in CommuteSmart. Each commuter is eigible to receive up to $70 during this period. Commuters are paid for each day they chooose to carpool, telework, take transt, bike or walk to work. A minimum of 20 alternative commurtes must be taken during the 90-day period to qualify for a check (this would equal a $20 check). Commuters must live or work in Jefferson or Shelby counties to be eligible. After you have completed the GetGreen program, you will automatically be enrolled into CommuterClub. Please register in our database before applying for GetGreen. Vanpool participants are not eligible for this program. CommuterClub A COMMUTESMART PROGRAM After the initial 90-day period of the GetGreen program, commuters are automatically enrolled in the ongoing CommuterClub program. “Club members” who log at least 20 qualified commute trips over a three-month period will receive a $25 gift card of their choice every 90 days.Each carpooler that logs their commutes is eligible for a gift card. Commutes are not based on distance from home to work. Qualified commute alternatives are carpooling, teleworking, taking transit, biking and walking to work. EmergencyA COMMUTESMART PROGRAM RIDE HOME Any commuter registered as a carpool or vanpool participant in the CommuteSmart database is eligible for the Emergency Ride Home program. If an emergency comes up and a commuter needs to get home but has no way of getting there, all he or she has to do is call CommuteSmart and set up a free ride home. This program only covers emergencies such as sickness or unexpected overtime up to 5 times per year.

COUNSELING SERVICES EACC’s dedicated team of licensed and certified mental health professionals specialize in individual counseling, marriage and family therapy, play therapy, group counseling, alcohol and drug abuse aftercare, EMDR, critical incident stress management, aging and caregiver issues, employee assistance, career exploration, financial counseling, art therapy and more.
