Zafar Arain was in the technology industry in Pakistan for six years before coming to New Zealand to study business computing in 2002. He liked the country so much he stayed and eventually decided to go into business. He started up a com- puter and mobile phone business in Hamilton with Qasim Munir, an Information Techno- logy Masters graduate from La Trobe Univers- ity in Melbourne. The business proved so successful that the pair have now opened a Te Awamutu store. Mr Arain says they looked at a number of sites in several Waikato towns, but settled on Te Awamutu as the best option. TC030608DT01 DETERMINED DEFENCE: As Brian Wethers (above) and Ben Hill (below) found out, were giving Waikato Pistons no easy points in Thursday night’s clash at the Te Awamutu Events Centre.

BY DEAN TAYLOR

Surprisingly Waikato Pistons only lost by eight points at the Te Awamutu Events Centre last Thursday night as they looked completely outclassed by a determined Harbour Heat. The 92-84 loss is the third in a row for the Waikato franchise heading into the playoffs — by contrast Heat are on a two game streak with both teams vying for home court playoff advantage. The Pistons stay second and guaran- teed of a playoff, but they will need to find some form if they want to keep the vital placing that will put them straight into the semi-finals. Teams finishing third to sixth have a harder road, playing elimination quarter-finals to then play off against the top two teams. Thursday’s game saw the home-team trailing throughout — down by as much as 14 and from about half way through the second quarter, never able to even tie. The three point shooters were cold, while Heat sharpshooters all found form. And Heat played tough, smart defence while it has to be said the frustrated Pistons’ defence started to get a bit ugly — giving away two unsportsman-like fouls in a row and possession near the end of the match. For the Pistons, imports and Brian Wethers scored 24 and 22 respectively, but next highest contribu- tor was with just 10. Heat shooters to make double figures were Oscar Forman (22), Hayden Allen 6250817AA (19), Tim Behrendorff (15), Jarrod Kenny (12) and (11). The Pistons’ last game of the season is Thursday night’s live televised match, away against the desperate Stars.
