MINIMUM BID INCREMENTS – RULES IN DETAIL

The minimum bid increment is often forgotten in times of intense bidding, but it can be the determining factor in whether you win or lose the item you’re after. To avoid losing due to a bid increment mistake, make sure you pay attention to the bid increment value stated in the top right of the silent auction form. For example:

Case 1 - Bill's High Bid Wins! Case 2 - Bill's High Bid Loses!

1) The auction begins. 1) The auction begins. 2) Fred bids $100. 2) Fred bids $100. 3) Bill bids $105. 3) Bill bids $102. 4) The auction ends. 4) The auction ends.

BILL WINS the auction since his $105 BILL LOOSES! His higher bid of $102 beats $100, and he has followed the does NOT win this item. He didn't bid increment rule labeled on the meet the minimum bid increment of auction form ($5 in this case). $5, so his bid is not valid.

The incremental amount is predetermined based on the value of the item up for auction. The following table shows the amount of bid increments.
