We will make rest stops and a lunch break (on your own) along the way and arrive mid-afternoon. Upon arrival in Saugatuck, enjoy a thrilling sand dune buggy ride! This exciting tour will take you up and down sand dunes along the shores of Lake Michigan, and your guide will tell you about the local vegetation and wildlife, plus share information about the lost town of Singapore, perhaps Michigan’s most famous ghost town. Following your tour, proceed to Muskegon, Michigan to check into your hotel for a one-night stay. Dinner is included at the hotel this evening.

MONDAY, AUGUST 3: (B,L,D) Continue your journey north to Traverse City. Along the way, pick up boxed lunches to be enjoyed on a tall ship sail. On this unique adventure, step back in time to discover the beauty of Grand Traverse Bay from the deck of a majestic sailing vessel. The Tall Ship Manitou is a replica of an 1800's “coasting” cargo schooner, similar to those that sailed the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean. Back on shore, disembark and meet your local step-on guide for a driving tour of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Wind through 7½ miles of dunes, woods, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan on this scenic drive. You may even want to try climbing on one of the dunes! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore won the title of Good Morning America’s “Most Beautiful Place in America”. This hidden gem boasts 64 miles of beaches along Lake Michigan, two islands, 26 inland lakes, more than 50,000 acres of land, and the monumental sand dunes from which it gets its name. Next, visit The Cherry Republic, the largest cherry store in the world. Strangely beautiful, delicious, and eccentric, rustic and friendly, rooted in the region’s bounty, the main store is the primary sampling, shopping, and gift-giving station. Stock up on everything from jams to salsas to chocolates and more! Following your visit, head back to Traverse City and Old Mission Peninsula. Dinner is included tonight on the waterfront at the Boathouse Restaurant. Time permitting, your guide will take you up to the point of Mission Peninsula to enjoy the views of Grand Traverse Bay, the vineyards, and an historic lighthouse, Old Mission Point. The lighthouse began service in 1870 and rests almost exactly on the forty-fifth parallel, halfway between the pole and the equator. The lighthouse is a private residence now, but guests are able to walk the grounds. Upon your return to Traverse City, proceed to check into your hotel for a one-night stay.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 4: (B,L,D) Start your day with a tour of the Music House Museum, one of the most popular attractions in the region, with an extensive collection of fine and rare antique and automated musical instruments in period American settings. The gem of the collection is the magnificent 97-key Mortier dance organ, built in Antwerp in 1922. Following your visit, depart for Charlevoix and visit Castle Farms. Lunch is included at the farm, and following lunch, begin a guided tour which will include the beautiful gardens, the museum collections, and the magnificent French Chateau-style buildings. Your guide will delight you with the rich history of Castle Farms, from it original construction as Loeb Farm in 1918 through the art studio and gallery period, the rock concert era, and into the extensive renovation and restoration that took place from 2001-2005.
